One of the biggest mistakes people make with fitness watches is treating “calories burned” like an exact science.

They’re estimates.

And sometimes they can be very inaccurate depending on:

* the workout
* heart rate readings
* body size
* movement patterns
* the device itself

That doesn’t mean watches are useless.

Far from it.

I actually think they’re brilliant for:
âś… step awareness
âś… movement habits
âś… activity trends
âś… consistency
âś… accountability

If your average daily movement goes up over time, that can make a huge difference for fat loss and health.

Just don’t fall into the trap of:
“I burned 800 calories so I’ve earned a takeaway.”

Use your watch as a guide for movement… not permission to overeat.

They’re struggling because they don’t have a plan they can actually stick to.

That might not sound exciting compared to the promises you see online.

“I don’t know what to eat anymore.”

Honestly, that’s one of the most common things I hear.

Fast.
Don’t fast.

Eat carbs.
Don’t eat carbs.

Cut fat.
Cut sugar.

After a while it’s no surprise people feel confused.

The problem isn’t that you need another diet.

It’s that you’ve been given too many rules.

Most people don’t need a perfect nutrition plan.

Chicken, Chorizo & Bean Stew 🍲

One of those meals that proves fat loss food doesn’t need to be boring.

âś… 478 kcal
âś… 52g protein
âś… Simple ingredients
âś… Great for batch cooking

The recipe card is based on 4 servings, but if you wanted to stretch it a little further you could easily split the batch into 5 portions instead.

That would bring each serving down to around:

• 382 kcal
• 42g protein

…and still leave you with room for a slice of crusty sourdough on the side.

A good reminder that successful nutrition isn’t about perfection. It’s about finding options that fit your calories, keep you full and are realistic enough to repeat week after week.

A lot of fitness content online looks great…

Perfect meal prep.
Two workouts a day.
Unlimited time.
Perfect routines.

But most people over 40 are juggling:

Week 3 update of my Newcastle → St Albans walking challenge 👣

Three weeks ago I set myself a simple goal:

Walk from Newcastle to St Albans by July 1st.

Not literally in one go, but by tracking every step I take along the way.

So far:

đźš¶ 280,684 steps
📍 127.6 miles
âś… 39% of the journey complete

That puts me around the York area on the route.

The target was never about smashing myself with endless cardio.

It’s about building consistency around real life.

Some days have been 20,000+ steps.
Some days have just scraped the target.
But the important thing is that the average keeps moving in the right direction.

Current average:
👣 13,367 steps per day

Alongside the walking I’m still:
🏋️ Getting stronger
⚖️ Working back towards 76kg
âś… Staying consistent around work, travel and life

Three weeks down.

Still a long way to go, but we’re making progress.

One step at a time.

Most people think they need:
More motivation
More discipline
More time

They don’t.
