Good morning everyone. Due to the extreme heat 🥵 we are cancelling tonight’s class and moving the final class of the course to next Tuesday.

Keep safe, cool and hydrated and I will see you all next week.

TaiChiRebel called me from Sweden to share and discuss the below as he wanted to make sure that we cared for you all to the best of our ability. We were conscious that the heat impact is throughout the day not just at night during class.

Following from warning advice from the NHS to all people on Blood Thinners, Blood Pressure, NSAID medication to ensure that they hydrated as the medication reacts to heat and prevents the body from taking up the normal amount of hydration from the drink. The suggestion is that they drink twice as much as they do normally whilst the heat wave is on.

We are so lucky to have this dedicated practice area in Sandbach Park 😀

Seriously it is perfect for QiGong and TaiJi ☯️ practice. The ground is flat, it is shaded from direct sunlight ☀️ and surrounded by natures Qi and cleaner air as the trees and plants help to absorb the pollutants from the air you breathe in whilst practicing.

This means that the quality of Da Qi (Air Qi) which is extracted from the air you breathe is enhanced during your QiGong and TaiJi frame practice.

I spent over an hour this morning before breakfast practicing:

- The 8 Brocade also known as the Ba Duan Jin QiGong set translated as Eight Fine Treasures QiGong.
- Energy Gathering and Balancing exercises including Zhan Zhuang(Standing Meditation) 🧘
- The Chenstyle 18 Short Frame.
- Working upon the opening form exclusively and refining both the internal and external.

You can see that I was aware of TaiJi principles in choosing where to practice. This is a very Daoist(Taoist) approach to analysing your surrounding and the external to maximise the harmonising and cultivative effects of my QiGong and TaiJi frame practice. ☯️

As I often teach in class TaiJi is the study and practice of the Supreme Ultimate. Tai Chi is normally just the label applied to the practice of movements for Health and Wellbeing only which often ends up becoming Tai Chi dance. Tai Chi Chuan is the Martial practice of TaiJi or representation of it if you like.

To maximise the Health & Wellbring potential of TaiJi you need to practice with Martial intent even if you never use it in real world application.

The Spiritual aspect well that’s another subject but a part of TaiJi underlined by its Daoist roots. The great thing is that TaiJi is just like Daoism in that it is a fully inclusive practice that can be enjoyed by all, it has no Dogma and rules that you must abide by, it respects your Spiritual beliefs or even non beliefs and simply provides you a wonderful vehicle to seek peace, happiness, fulfilment and to enhance all your life endeavours through its wonderful energy and principles. ✨

Well I hope I have sold it well enough to you all and inspired you to find a lovely place to practice this weekend ❤️

Someone asked me about QiGong practice in our last class. Qigong (The Art Of Energy) practice is a vital component of TaiJi.

Qigong practice provides the necessary internal elements of TaiJi frame practice, without it we are just performing movements. Some of my long term students have learnt and practiced at least one of the main QiGong sets namely:
-The 8 Brocade(Eight Treasures QiGong)
-Joint Loosening QiGong sets.

There are hundreds of thousands various versions of QiGong. However, we practice the source versions of QiGong from which all the other versions were created. It is also worth noting that some of the esoteric forms of Meditation such as the Nine breaths meditation we have practiced in class I would categorise as a form of QiGong practice.

In September we will be learning the WeiQi QiGong set as a part of our classes, pounced Way Chi. This set is designed to improve our WeiQi also known as defensive Qi(Chi).

One of the principles of Taoism teaches us to be in harmony with our external surroundings. In the Autumn and Winter the weather becomes colder so our diet and practice should change to reflect this.

The cold normally puts greater demands on our bodies and immune system, thus WeQi QiGong practice can assist us in preventing us from becoming sick with the various bugs and viruses during these seasons, and if we do get sick helps us to overcome the illness much more quickly.

If in the meantime you are interested in learning the WeQi QiGong set before September you can access the full WeQi WiGong set inside the our membership area. ⬇️
