It's easy to believe that one food is the cause of all your problems.

"Bread is my issue"
"Sugar is my issue"
"Wine is my issue"

But, many people include these foods in their diet yet remain healthy, fit and in good shape because they get the fundamentals right.

They know that they can include these foods within their diet as long as they're balancing the books!

Consistently hitting your protein target, remaining in a calorie input that supports your goals and having colourful plates with an abundance of fruit & veg constitute 90% of what really matters🙌

K cool that's it👍

Building muscle & developing strength for all sexes is the basis of what we do at Health and Performance.

Not because it's going to make you bulky, but because a well-designed, progressively overloaded and enjoyable strength program can slow down the effects of aging and help you continue to do the things you love.

It's not about losing weight. The diet takes care of that💁

It's about empowerment and showing people that their bodies are capable of great things if they just gave it a push!

The best thing... It's never too late to start.

These are but a few of the benefits of strength training:

- slow down age related muscular atrophy
- improve balance and coordination
- reduce the risk of arthritis and osteoporosis
- improve body composition
- enhance metabolism

It doesn't happen overnight! But it's well worth it in the end💪

Just another example of the benefits of resistance training💪

It doesn't have to be fancy!

The key is consistency and a desire to continue to live a long functional life

Afraid to do resistance training for fear of injuring yourself through bad form?

This is commonplace for a large majority of gym-goers which is why they stick to the cardio section and never venture into the wonderful world of resistance training💁

Let me tell you now, it's time to give your body more credit. It's way more resilient than you think and injuries are way more complex than you think!

Your risk of injury will be mostly dictated by previous injury history, high forces, high speeds, lack of recovery, incorrect load management etc.

If you were to start light & slow with a few simple exercises, you'd give yourself the time to learn and progressively overload the tissue to a point that it's conditioned enough to generate higher forces and velocities without a high risk of damage🔥

In the long term, avoiding resistance training will likely just increase your injury risk.

Get lifting💪

It's hard not to see others thriving in their health & fitness journey while you're battling along in the trenches but it's important to evaluate yourself on your own merit rather than comparing to others.

I'm a big advocate for playing the long game and treating each client on their individual merits.

Everyone has different goals. Different time-scales. Different schedules. Different mindsets.

If you're making progress, you're doing something right. Celebrate the little wins.

If you're feeling stuck and struggling to gain momentum in your training, drop me a message to find out how my program can help you reach new heights💪💪

This was me at 25💪 when my self esteem was determined by how many abs I had!

Do I look like that now?
In the words of Jordan Belfort ...
Absolutely f #*?! not💁

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not in bad shape but I'm nowhere near that level of conditioning. But I also don't have the desire to train 2hours a day either!

I'm 32 now with my own business, more responsibilities, a dog, and a partner I've just bought a house with. If I chased what I used to look like, something's going to have to give.

So many people approach me wanting to return to what they used to look like, often 20 years ago🤯 you're not that person anymore!

Now I'm not saying people shouldn't be motivated. I'm saying be careful of having the wrong motivation. If you keep chasing who you were, you'll never get to see who you can become😎

Become a successful entrepreneur. Become a healthy, happy parent.

Look back at your 20s and thank that person for their role they played in shaping who you are today.

Keep growing.

Be the healthiest version of yourself in your nonstop busy life and ever aging body.

Also the sun is out and it's making me crave a braai/barbeque. But that's got nothing to do with this post I'm just saying🤙

Think of your training and nutrition as a dimmer switch rather than an on & off switch.

It is constantly on and sometimes when you've got the energy you can turn it right up, sometimes you have to dim it down to save a bit💁

Too many people turn the switch off and leave the room. That room gets cold and dark and damp!

Keep the lights on because your body isn't going to wait for you to pick up where it left off.

Start when you've got time. Start when you don't. Just start. And never stop again💪

Resistance training is perhaps the fitness industry's single biggest non-negotiable!

Want to increase metabolism? Lift weights.
Want to improve bone density? Lift weights.
Want to improve movement quality? Lift weights.
Want to reduce pain & injuries? Lift weights.

Some people think that they're too unfit to do resistance training💁

Do you sit down and stand up? You can squat.
Can you put things up on the shelf? You can shoulder press.
Can you open the door? You can row.

Invest in a coach to teach you the fundamentals and within a few sessions you'll realise you're capable of way more than you thought!

It's never too late to start🏋️🏋️‍♀️
