Hi. We thought we would post something as we haven't posted in a while...
Our club has had a recent name change and is now called Marske & Loftus Badminton Club. Watch this space for changes to our fb page.
We are currently running two very popular sessions on Thursdays and sundays with well over 25+ regular members attending weekly to each session (on occasions we have had to play shorter games due to physical numbers off court).
Socially, the club has continued to grow and we are complimented all the time by new joining members and guests, telling us how they are made to feel very welcome and there is a real family/friendly ethos here. Again, something were are very proud of!
Unfortunately, this year, we say goodbye to a few university leavers, but we have all made sure they had a good send off!! It won't be goodbye for the lads though, as we're all going to keep in touch, as we always have with our uni members. Work hard lads!!
At M&L, it's not just about the badminton. We are always planning social events and trips. We have an event, of some sort, pretty much every month! From Mexican tournaments to bbq's, from the All England Birmingham do to members birthdays, and even holidays and breaks away with the club members, we are happy to say badminton itself comes a very close 2nd to our social outlook :) A visit to the bar after a club night is testament to that!! 🍷🍺🍻☕
Having said the above in regard to how friendly and relaxed we are, the members here are also competitive and we have grown an extremely successful club! We have broken records again in our last season managing to get, not just one team, but two teams in the top A division in all disciplines (men's, ladies and mixed). Something we are all very proud of here in our club.
Finally, a moment to celebrate our outgoing chairperson, Melanie Smiles. At our recent AGM Mel stepped down from her role as Chairperson. We would like to personally thank her for all her hard work and dedication she has shown the club and its members over her years in the role. The club would not be in the position mentioned above if it was not for her. Gary Lane has taken over the reigns and we look forward to working with Gary to keep doing what we have been doing and pushing the club forward!!!
All that said and done, we do also have a very strong back up team in place running everything behind the scenes. As a club, I think I would not be speaking out of turn thanking everyone who volunteers and helps out with the running of M&L badminton club. :)
This is just a little update for members old and new to show that here, at Marske & Loftus badminton club, we continue to grow, and have gone from strength to strength by growing the numbers of players taking up the sport and keeping the long term members happy!!!
We will endeavour to keep you all updated going forward..
