What a fantastic effort from our U 15’s today at Liskeard. The six week wait was well worth it to observe a brilliant display of guts, determination and spirit! Just what the coaches ordered. We knew it was going to be a tough encounter as Liskeard have really improved their game over the last two seasons. They have a huge pack and used it to their advantage all through the game. When we could we ran it wide and it worked! We got the first try from a classic wing score by Brandon C in the right corner after a great passage of play from the our forwards. Liskeard came back fairly soon with a try and conversion giving them a narrow lead. We ran it out again and this time with full back Sam Walker coming into the line to score again in the right corner. There was no way our winger was going to get a pass from him, right Sam?
Liskeard came back again and with a good conversion went into the lead at the break 14-10. The second half started with the Liskeard pack dominating the game and assisted by a couple of dodgy referees decisions they went ahead by two tries to 26-10. In the last quarter we lifted our heads and with the forwards delivering fast quality ball our backs had their chance and ran in three tries, two from Archie and one from Andrew almost one after the other through a Liskeard defence that was in disarray. Now everybody was paying attention! We had a lost opportunity in the middle of the pitch and a turnover by Liskeard gave them the upper hand. We were desperate to hold them out and penalties against us started to mount. This developed into a forward battle that knew no bounds with them camped on our 5 metre line for what seemed an eternity. But we held them out, they did not score! What a finish to our first game of 2018. Liskeard 26- Saltash 25. The best we have played this season. Man of the match today was a tough one as several came into the frame but Jay C won it for some sterling work in the back row. A special mention also for Hayden Ross who had his debut at ho**er for a part of the game, well done Hayden welcome to the front row and facing one of the biggest U15 packs in Cornwall! Well done to all of you. This is the Rugby we need to play. Fast, furious and focused. Keep it up boys!

Another hard day at the office for our lads this morning. I have to say that at the meet when only 17 of our squad turned up for a home game I was less than happy. To those that decided that their pit was a better place to be on a Sunday morning rather than joining their team mates for a hard game of rugby I say have a word with yourselves. You all said you were available at training and this was the result! Enough of that.
We knew it would be a hard game and it was , but again played in the right spirit of the game. Sharks opened up the scoring early on and the first half was all theirs. We did well to keep them at bay and Fin playing his debut at Ho**er did his best but they were just too strong in the scrum and took a lot of our ball. The second half was much better, playing with the slope we managed to stem the tide a bit more and for some reason Sharks decided that our 5M line was the try line and quick as you like while they were all celebrating Archie picked up the deserted ball to sprint past them all to score our first try of the match. Some red faces there. And it happened again when their skipper thought he was touching down a try again on our 5M line but we were not so lucky that time. In the closing minutes from a penalty we got a 5M line out and from it formed a brilliant maul which just gave us enough time to settle and get the ball away to Andrew at 10 who scooted through their ragged defence to score close to the posts losing a boot in the process, he then converted his own try. Some solid play today from Andrew, Archie, Brandon C, Cort, Colm, Jay A, Danny, Tristan guesting at blind side flanker and our man of the match Will Hunt who single handed brought down their biggest player with ease! Better ball retention today but still a way to go lads and more work in the loose. Well done to those that turned up. Proud of you all. Launceston next week, one we could win if we’ve a mind to.
