After class this morning, I put on an old Line Dance track just to see if I could remember the dance.

I hadn't danced it for years.

No step sheet. No demo video. No prompts from anyone else.

Then the music started... and something just clicked.

My feet knew where to go before my brain had even consciously caught up. Every wall change, every count and every transition seemed to be waiting there, hidden away until the music unlocked it.

And there's actually a fascinating reason for that.

When we repeat movements over and over, our brains begin to store them as procedural memories – the type of memory responsible for skills like riding a bike, typing on a keyboard or driving a car. Instead of having to consciously think about every single step, the movement patterns become automated through practice.

Music adds another layer. Our brains are incredibly good at linking sounds with movement and emotion, so hearing a familiar song can act like a key, unlocking choreography that has been sitting quietly in storage for years.

It's why people living with dementia can often remember songs from decades ago, or why you can suddenly sing every word to a tune you haven't heard since school. Music creates incredibly powerful neural connections.

This is exactly what I want for my class members.

I don't want you to spend every week feeling like you're starting from scratch or frantically trying to keep up. I want your brain to have the opportunity to build those pathways so that, eventually, your body just knows.

That's one of the reasons my classes are structured the way they are. We revisit skills, build on previous learning and create predictable patterns that help your brain encode movement more effectively. It's not about making things easy – it's about making learning stick.

Because one day, maybe years from now, you'll hear a song that we danced to together...
..and without a step sheet, without a demo and without anyone prompting you, your feet will simply remember.

And I think that's pretty magical. 🧡

Anyone recognise the dance? 🍾🤞🤠

It's very easy in this industry to look at socials and feel that you're just not cutting the mustard, like your class numbers are a reflection on your teaching.

The world talks about attendance, bookings, check‑ins — but none of that comes close to measuring what instructors really do.

Our work lives in the moments no one else sees:

🧡The way you read a room before anyone says a word and somehow know exactly what your people need that day.

🧡The member who walks in quietly, holding something heavy they haven’t spoken aloud, and you make space for them without ever calling attention to it.

🧡The regular who hasn’t missed a class since their life cracked open and your class became the one place they could breathe again.

🧡The person who whispered “I almost didn’t come today… but I’m so glad I did,” and you carried that with you for days.

🧡The times you stayed late because someone needed to talk, or showed up early because someone needed a moment of comfort before they could face the world.

🧡The playlist you changed at the last second because you could feel the energy wasn’t right and somehow that tiny shift lifted the whole room.

🧡The person who came back after a long absence and you welcomed them like they never left, because you knew how much courage it took just to walk through the door.

🧡The member who cried in their car afterwards not because the class was hard, but because it was the first time all week they felt safe enough to let go.

🧡The way you celebrate tiny wins that no one else would notice: a smile, a deeper breath, a moment of confidence, a spark returning to someone’s eyes.

🧡The way you hold space for people who are grieving, healing, rebuilding, or simply trying to make it through the day.

None of it fits in a spreadsheet.

❌️You don’t just teach movement.
✅️You create safety.
✅️You create connection.
✅️You create moments of relief, joy, courage, and hope.

❌️You are not “just” an instructor.
✅️You are a lifeline.
✅️A bright spot.
✅️A steady place in someone’s storm.

And it’s time someone said that out loud.

If like me, you're an instructor that's doubting your impact on the world right now, you're seen, valued and respected for everything you do that can't be measured. 💜

Had my youngest ever line dancer this morning! We were joined by the lovely Natalie and her beautiful baby boy who was so cute 😍

He made it being 'worn' through a few dances before he was rocked to sleep during one and couldn't hold his little curious eyes open any longer!

What a great way to connect with new activities and still keep baby close. Picture is AI generated because I wasn’t going to wake a sleeping baby for a selfie at the end....I'm not stupid!!

Hi, I’m Hannah — the instructor behind Saltash Line Dancing with Hannah and proud Cornwall Muddy Stilettos Finalist 2026.

I believe line dancing should feel fun, welcoming, and completely pressure‑free. My mission is simple: to help you walk into class feeling curious… and walk out feeling lighter, happier, and proud of yourself.

My sessions blend modern, feel‑good routines with a warm, supportive atmosphere where absolutely everyone is welcome. You don’t need a partner, experience, or perfect coordination — just a willingness to move your body and enjoy the moment.

🧡 If you’re brand new, I’ll guide you step by step with a structured approach that builds confidence week by week.
🧡 If you’re returning to dance, you’ll rediscover your rhythm in a friendly, judgement‑free space.
🧡 If you’re looking for a mood boost, you’ll find laughter, community, and a class that feels like “you time.”

Some days I wonder if anybody really knows what they want from a fitness instructor.

People say they want someone they can relate to. Someone real. Someone who understands pain, chronic illness, anxiety, neurodivergence, mental health, exhaustion and all the barriers that life throws at us.

But when those same barriers stop me from being able to perform at 100%, suddenly being human doesn't seem to be enough. And you must not complain or show weakness because that's not attractive to them either, you're being 'too honest'.

People say they want an instructor who goes above and beyond. They want themed events, surprise extras, encouragement, community, awards, messages that check in, carefully planned classes that build skills properly, and someone who genuinely invests in every person who walks through the door.

So you pour your heart into creating all of that.

You spend hours planning, researching, rehearsing, learning, adapting and cheering people on.

And sometimes they still walk away for something that offers none of the above, not even close!

I'll be completely honest, it's exhausting.

Not because I expect loyalty or applause, but because so much of what I do comes from a place of wanting people to feel seen, valued and capable. It's never just been about teaching steps or counting beats.

Then I remember something important.

The right people stay.

The people who need your way of teaching, your kindness, your structure, your understanding and your passion will find you. They may not always be the loudest voices, but they're there.

So even on the days where I question myself, I'll keep showing up as me.

Because pretending to be anything else would be far more exhausting than being authentic ever could be. ❤️

05/06/2026

Early yesterday morning I received a message with an urgent request for a qualified Line Dance Instructor to lead 90 teachers in an hour-long session.

It was part of the leaving celebration for the CEO of Bridge Schools Trust, who has dedicated more than 30 years to education. Unfortunately, the instructor originally booked could no longer make it, so I stepped up.

Now, I was a fairly average student at school, and if there's one thing I absolutely hated, it was public speaking. Dance, however, was different. Dance gave me confidence. It gave me a place where I felt capable, and it carried me through some of my childhood years when I needed it most.

So, standing in front of a room full of teachers today was a little surreal. Not going to lie, it was nerve-wracking. These are people who command rooms and engage audiences every single day. But once the music started, something magical happened.

Everyone threw themselves into it. They sang, they whooped, they laughed, and they absolutely smashed every routine. The energy in the room was incredible.

I'm really glad I didn't let my anxiety get the better of me and say "no" to the opportunity, because it turned out to be such a blast. Thank you to Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy and Bridge Schools for inviting me. I hope your staff enjoyed themselves and perhaps even find a local class to continue their fantastic start to line dancing.

And just for the record, I don't think I'm the hero in this story. Those teachers show up every day to educate, support, inspire and care for young people. They're the real heroes. I was just lucky enough to spend an hour dancing with them.💖

Hopefully once cleared to share, I'll have some photos to show you 🤠
