πŸ’ͺ⚽ Match Report & MOTM – St Mawgan (A)

St Mawgan away is always one you look for at the start of the season β€” a tough place to go and get anything. With no pressure on the result for us, it was more about putting in a strong performance, while St Mawgan were right in the mix of a three-way battle for second and potential promotion.

The game started a bit scrappy on a firm surface as both teams tried to settle. The deadlock was eventually broken when Spike reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the box, calmly finishing after a number of blocked efforts.

Both sides then settled into the game and largely cancelled each other out for much of the first half, until Fraz added a second with a trademark low β€œpea roller” finish. 2–0 at the break.

We started the second half well and began to frustrate St Mawgan, who were desperate for the next goal. Their skipper then saw red after a moment of madness, leaving us with a man advantage.

We made that count with two more goals:
A powerful driving run from Fin Basterfield, shrugging off two challenges before releasing Tappy, who finished calmly past the keeper.

The final goal came from The Waltz, peeling off nicely onto a pass from Pete Styring and finishing neatly into the side netting with his left foot.

A strong performance all round β€” one of our best on the road. Thanks to St Mawgan for a good game, and good luck in your push for promotion. πŸ‘

⚽ Next Fixture

Our penultimate league game takes place tomorrow night as we welcome Looe Town A.F.C. to Kimberley Stadium.

If it’s anything like the away fixture, it promises to be an entertaining one.

Looe will be pushing to secure a top-five finish, so we know they’ll mean business.

πŸ’ͺ⚽ Match Report – vs Gunnislake (H)

One of the most honest teams in the league, Gunnislake always make you work for it. After a tight 1–0 win at their place, we knew we had to be at it to take all three points at home.

The opening 25 minutes were scrappy, with both sides struggling to get hold of the ball. Eventually our midfield started to take control, with Owen Davies at the heart of it. He opened the scoring with a great touch and finish from the edge of the box after Pete Styring laid it off.

A couple of missed chances and a clear penalty shout waved away meant we went into the break 1–0 up.

The second half started in style, with Pete Styring doing what he does best β€” cutting in from wide and firing one into the top corner, a real contender for goal of the season. πŸš€

The scoring was rounded off by Owen Davies, who grabbed his second with a superb free-kick, bending it around the wall and into the far corner.
