A crunch match that had everything, but ended in frustration as we faced Eldwick yesterday afternoon.
We dominated the opening exchanges with several shots on goal, but we just couldn’t find that clinical finish. That changed in the 44th minute! After a frantic sequence of rebounds from Aleah and April, April finally poked it through the keeper’s legs to send us into the break 1-0 up.
Eldwick restarted quickly, leveling the score just 5 minutes after the whistle. From there, it became a tense, end-to-end battle. Eldwick managed to find their second in the 67th minute, leaving us fighting for an equaliser.
The final minutes were overshadowed by yet more questionable decisions. We were denied a massive goalscoring opportunity when the referee stopped play for a trip with no one around the player. The resulting frustration saw Tash receive a yellow for dissent after questioning the decision.
Things then turned ugly as the Eldwick manager entered the pitch - the less we say about it, the better. It was an unacceptable display of aggression that has no place in the women’s game. Despite the intimidation, the referee’s decisions remained inconsistent; Tash was shown a second yellow turned red, while the manager somehow walked away with just a booking.
In the dying seconds, we threw everything at a corner, including our keeper, Hannah, in an attempt to rescue a point. It was a gamble that didn’t pay off, as Eldwick broke away to score their third on the counter.
Regardless of the scoreline, we come away proud of our unity and the growth we’ve shown throughout this 25/26 season. We win and lose as a team, and next season we go again, coming back stronger than ever.
🌟 The biggest win of the day was seeing Cheryl back on the pitch after a prolonged period out, having her back with the squad was the highlight of the afternoon. Thank you to everyone for welcoming her back with a massive round of applause.
🏆 Player of the Match goes to Kirsty Allen. A total warrior performance in defense. She may have significantly less ankle bone left after the hacking she received, but she put in a massive performance and stood tall for her teammates amidst the chaos.
