Here is our member of the month number two:
Liz Gummer
Suffers from Rheumatoid Arthritis, which has got progressively worse over the last few years.
Liz was attending our Monday morning sessions for quite a few months, but her Physio and Consultant advised her not to attend but to do something more gentle such as Tai Chi, we must admit this baffled us a little as obviously her balance was not good, however who were we to argue...
Only a few months ago Liz made contact with us again with a little cry for help wondering if she could return to Happy Hearts as she missed the music and laughter, Liz clearly required a little more individual help so she then started to attend our Codford class.
When Liz arrived her condition had worsened considerably and she was now walking very slowly with a stoop and the aid of a stick, confidence in herself was very low, by now Liz was on a Buprenorphine Patch to manage her pain.
Liz did all her exercises from a chair with a minimal amount of walking and certainly couldn't get up from her chair unaided.
So we set to work with Liz and with perseverance and her belief in us and a little bit of 'home work' on her behalf on her 4th class she managed to 'Sit to Stand' 12 times in one minute. She is now walking taller, stronger and steadier, her confidence has increased so much she smiles and laugh the whole class.
We are all so proud of you Liz as are your fellow class members and this is borne out by the rapturous cheers and applause you got when you achieved your 12 repetitions unaided.
