Each year, FTX Logistics Limited supports the RLC Sailing Association Regatta, providing selected personnel with the opportunity to take part in structured sailing training.
This year, HET Operators Simon Mulderig and James Hancott were selected to represent the company, gaining first-hand experience in a challenging but enjoyable and social environment.
Simon reflects on his experience:
“I was proud to represent FTX Logistics Limited alongside James Hancock at a sailing competition on the Isle of Wight with the RLC Sailing Association.
We had an excellent time on the water, developed valuable sailing skills, and were able to challenge ourselves in a completely different environment.
What began as a routine day of race practice quickly became one to remember. Under the guidance of our skipper, Lieutenant Colonel Bruce Ekman, we undertook training in challenging conditions around the Isle of Wight. Strong winds and choppy seas made it a demanding session, but one that provided significant learning.
Unfortunately, the day came to an abrupt end following a collision with another yacht, which resulted in their mast being snapped. Thankfully, no injuries were sustained, but it was certainly an incident we won’t forget.
On a lighter note, we were presented with a section of the damaged mast at the awards ceremony as a memento of the day. Not quite the trophy we were aiming for, but certainly one of the most memorable.
The experience highlighted the importance of teamwork, communication, and adaptability—qualities just as important ashore as they are at sea.
I am grateful to FTX Logistics Limited for providing opportunities like this and for investing in the development of its people. It was a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable experience.”
This event continues to demonstrate the value of development opportunities outside the normal working environment, reinforcing key skills that directly support operational performance.
