Match Report. Salhouse vs Old Catton. 3/3/19.
This week we faced an Old Catton side who had gone four games undefeated prior to the weekend. The reason for this was immediately apparent, with a strong aerial threat and an impressive defence. The majority of the early chances fell to Salhouse, with the woodwork and Old Catton's goalie impressively keeping things level.
Despite Salhouse commanding the first half, midway through, Old Catton took their first real chance in the game. Salhouse failed to clear the ball following a set piece that fell nicely to an Old Catton player who took his chance with a well-timed and executed volley into the bottom right hand corner of the goal.
Salhouse at half time decided to change the formation in attempt to take the chance to draw level, unknown to us at that point it would take so long. The second half was long for all parties involved. With only one substitute to call upon and giving it their all, Salhouse started to tire and Old Catton looked to have the upper hand, bringing on several sets of fresh legs.
Salhouse's near missed passes and chances kept Old catton in the lead until the 93rd minute when Jack Herbet decided to put his shooting boots on. Mikey found himself on the left with space in which he plays a near enough perfect ball to his close friend, Jack, who hits a beautiful left footed volley past the keeper to secure a deserving draw.
This was a very hard fought game from both sides. I couldn't be prouder of the Salhouse side who turned up. We gave maximum effort right until the final whistle.
My joint MOTM goes to a Jack Herbert, who could've had a hat-trick, and Taylor Thomas Palmer, who's energy and passion for the game is a beautiful sight to be seen.
