My grandfather of blessed memory loved to gather us his grandkids around him and teach us parables and sound words of wisdom. One of such is "Time and tide wait for no man"- a timeless ode to the concept of Time Management.
As teens go back to school (and even beyond, as a life skill) , they need to master the fine art of Time Management.
Time Management is the ability to use one's time effectively or productively. For teens this productive energy should be channelled into chores, school work or some form of vocation.
Here are a few pointers to guide your teen to make the right decisions regarding their time:
1. Create your time : ensure that you create time for every responsibility that you have from chores to study to rest.
2. Use check lists: or to do lists. These are very vital so you don't slip up on your tasks. From experience, when you keep a detailed to do list you find that you are able to achieve tasks much faster
3. Set deadlines: a deadline is your best lifeline when you want to achieve your tasks (get the mom joke? 🤣🤭)
Ensure that beside every task you have outlined on your to do list, you assign a time by which it should be completed. That way, your tasks are not open-ended and you can hold yourself accountable
4. Eliminate interruptions: identify those things that can set you back from achieving your goal- scrolling through tiktok videos or chatting with a friend when during your assigned task can take more time away from you than you could possibly imagine. Set your self up for success during your tasks by removing those things that will set you back in time
5. Focus on one thing: do not try to do too many things at the same time, rather fix your focus on one thing at a time. When you have successfully completed the one thing, move on to the next. This will not only help in time management but it will improve the quality of what you do.
6. Take some breaks: I am a big fan of taking short breaks in between your work. This gives you the time to ease stress and come back to your work refreshed and renewed.
I hope you have found these tips useful.
