Here are some of the staff’s latest updates:
Emma has been working with Talkshop recently in supporting young people in accessing their sexual health clinic. She recently had brilliant support from one of the nurses in assisting a young person with a fear of needles and observed a helpful, supportive and engaging session from Jo Johnson around sexual health.
Jennie has had great success in supporting a young lady who suffered from low self-esteem and a very isolated social life. By helping this young lady, who is 18, to access a training provider, she has now successfully settled in an apprenticeship. This has enabled her confidence to grow and raised aspirations. Jennie supported her to gain a gym membership which has enabled her to access it with her friends. Her self-esteem has also grown, as well as her confidence in social situations. The feedback from the young person was; “Thank you for your help. I feel normal again like my friends doing normal things.”
We have made links with Stretford Police Station and a local police dog trainer who can deliver small 1-2-1 sessions to young people around dog safety. They also work to with raising aspirations for young people thinking about police related careers
Emma and Jennie completed a successful visit to CITV with 2 siblings from Virtual school who have been working with Activity agreement. Both the siblings are now settled into their foster placement and are accessing fun activities outside of school with their foster carers. On the trip to CITV, the children got to look around the ITV offices and see recording and the editing suite of creature comforts. The siblings were given career ideas for moving forward which fitted in nicely with Activity agreement’s support being slowly reduced. The trip was a great and fun day to end on high.
Jennie has recently undertaken 4 days training of Tackling Engagement, delivered by intraquest Training. Here she gained useful skills and a better understanding to engage with young people who may be “hard to reach.” This also allowed Jennie to get a better understanding of the barriers that young people are experiencing and the reasons why this can result in the difficulty for them to engage.
Emma is on the CYP IAPT course run through the NHS. She will soon be qualified to work with children and young people with low level anxiety and depression, delivering intensive therapy over 12 sessions. This therapy would be suitable for children and young people who do not quite meet the threshold for CAMHS intervention
The team recently attended Attachment Training at Sale Waterside, enabling us to raise our understanding of the difficulties that many children and young people can face and have learnt new strategies and techniques to meet their needs where possible. This was particularly useful with the age range we are currently working with and further compounded that Early Intervention is key to a child’s success.
We also welcome two new members to the team: Louise Russell and Danielle Boneheyo.
Thanks from the Team
The Activity agreement has been running for over 9 years and has delivered improved outcomes for 100
