A full point Saturday and a high scoring loss on Sunday marked the weekend results of the senior sides.
The 1st XI showed their resilient side to battle to a win over Irby at The Beets. Batting first on a deck which gave unexpected help to the bowlers, we were indebted to a pair of 50 partnerships, between Charles Erasmus and Charlie Eaton, and Mike Roberts and Tom Scott, which helped us recover from the loss of early wickets. A bit of tail wagging helped us post 159, which looked more than enough when we reduced Irby to 34-6, thanks to a great opening burst from Kris Green and James Marshall, and some excellent catching in the slips. A few shivers down the spine then followed as Irby recovered, before Zaheer Khan took out their top scorer thanks to a running, diving boundary catch by Harris Yassin. The 36-run win takes the 1s to the top of the table ahead of two massive games in the coming weeks.
The 2s got back to winning ways with an away demolition of Ashley. Batting first, we produced a fine effort with all the order contributing to a fine score of 230-6 off our 50 overs. Sam Thozerโs 44 and Chris Smithโs 43 were no doubt the highlights but all the other batters reached double figures. In reply Ashley had no answer to our bowling line up, with Joe Middleton and Will Sarchet knocking the top off the order before spin twins Ethan White and Yousuf Bhamjee both took 2 for 19 to secure a huge 144 victory. The result steadied the ship for the Twos who will be looking to press on as the season approaches itโs half way point.
With the 3s taking a break, Sunday saw the 4s taking the spotlight as they travelled to Styal. In a high scoring encounter, we posted a fine 200-7 off our 40 overs, with 50s for Tom Cutler and Mo Shadaan, which looked a tough target for the home side to chase. In a tightly fought contest, the game ebbed and flowed but some hitting by the lower order got Styal over the line for the loss of 8 wickets with 12 balls to spare. The young bowling attack we had in this game stood up well to the challenges of the game and we are proud of how all these players are developing this year.
