The Weekend Report!
The weekend's senior games saw frustration for the 1s, a demolition delivered by the 2s and a fine sign-off for the season from the 3s.
The 1s trip to Irby proved tricky from the start as a lost toss saw us batting on a track which had plenty in it after morning rain on an uncovered track.
Despite that, Harris Yassin and Tom Scott put together a great century partnership and at 125-1 we looked set for a big score.
But when the duo both fell, our effort faltered, with the home spin attack reducing us to a disappointing 170-8.
In reply the Irby batters smoothly moved to 108-1 before we began to make inroads.
Mark Weighill 4-24 and Charlie Eaton 3-31 broke the back of the innings and at 124-8we looked favorites.
Some big hitting by the tail got Irby within range but when one shot too many left Irby 9 down with 7 runs needed, we had a chance.
A huge lbw shout was denied and a slip catch which everyone apart from the umpire saw and heard allowed Irby to scramble home by 1 wicket.
The result sees us clear at the top of the league with one game to play. We need a handful of points from our final game at home to rivals Hale Barns to secure promotion and the title.
The 2s overwhelmed Ashley at The Beets. Sam Thozer (99) and Joe Gadsby (92) put on 182 for the first wicket as we piled on 246-4 from our 50 overs.
In reply Ashley had no answer to our bowling attack with 4 wickets for Ryan Carey and 3 each for Joe Middleton and Ethan White, leaving our guests all out for 79.
The win keeps us 6th in the table with one to play, in a season where the 2s have hit both highs and lows.
The 3s finished their campaign in style with victory over Trafford MV.
Electing to bat first we found it hard to make progress, struggling to 132 all out in 38 overs.
But our strong bowling line-up proved too much for Trafford as they were blown away for just 80.
This brings to an end to a very successful season for the 3s, finishing 3rd in their division. The fact we fell just short of promotion should not detract from the team's strong performances across the year, as new players blended with existing and developing talent.
