We are a grassroots football club based in Sale, with 3 teams- our First and Reserve teams play on Sunday mornings in the Manchester Amateur Sunday Football League, and our Veterans (Over 35's) play in the Tameside League on Sunday afternoons.

Our Firsts kicked off their league campaign this morning with a 4-1 loss on the road at Ashton On Mersey Football Club

Not quite the dream start for our Saturdays as they played their first competitive match earlier today.

The Spartans led early doors before being pegged back, but raced into a 3-1 lead with goals either side of half time.

The lads couldn't hold back the Silver Birch onslaught as legs grew heavier, seeing their lead eradicated and overturned, with an injury time winner seeing Silver Birch over the line with a 4-3 victory

Results from the weekend

A depleted Saturday team took on AFC Salford- unfortunately this game was abandoned midway through the second half with the Spartans behind.

Our Sunday XI, sponsored by We fit flooring, did make it through 90 minutes against Turnpike Pirates, but came up short despite scoring first and last. 5-2 the score there with goals from new boy Dom Powell and right back Chris Bailey.

At the other end of the Spartans career the Vets, sponsored by Taunton Pet Stores, came from 2 goals down to escape with a 2-2 draw against Old Trafford Athletic FC Vets.

Two sublime assists from the evergreen Reece Vanden led to goals for Chris Butt, his first goal in 889 days and a deserved equaliser for Pete Westwood, his first since..... Last game. A fine stop seconds from time denied Pete what would've been a certain winner, with the less said about the follow up effort the better!

After 8 half time changes, the Spartans doubled their lead with a fine strike from Ash, but a late double meant we left with honours even.
