Great to catch up with the players and staff at Lisburn Rangers Ladies during our recent club visit. ⚽️💚

We talked through the support available from PFA NI, including injury insurance, confidential wellbeing support, education and career opportunities, player benefits and independent advice.

Club visits are a vital part of making sure players know where to turn when they need support—both on and off the pitch.

Our website carries a significant amount of information on Maternity & Postpartum and a dedicated Women’s Football section for all players.

Thanks to our Player Rep Sophie Megaw and everyone at Lisburn Rangers Ladies for the warm welcome and brilliant engagement. 🔵⚪️🟡

Thank you also to our PDM’s Lyndsay Corry and Lucy Johnston for leading the visit.

The most important team talk may happen off the pitch.🗣️

This National Su***de Prevention Month, remember three simple actions:
1️⃣ Check in2️⃣ Listen3️⃣ Keep talking

If a teammate, friend or former player doesn’t seem themselves, start a conversation. You don’t need to have all the answers—being there and listening can make a real difference.
PFA NI provides confidential counselling support for current and former players. You are never wasting anyone’s time by asking for help.🎗️

HEADING, CONCUSSION AND BRAIN HEALTH 🧠

Every time a player heads the ball, we can see the action—but understanding its potential impact on the brain is much more complex.

New FIFPRO research is examining professional footballers’ exposure to head impacts during training and matches. Players have worn instrumented mouthguards to help researchers measure both the frequency and force of headers.
The research reflects an important reality: there are still significant gaps in our understanding of how concussion, repeated heading—or a combination of both—may affect players’ long-term brain health.

While the evidence continues to develop, the immediate concussion message remains clear:
⚠️ Recognise the signs⚠️ Remove the player immediately⚠️ Do not return them to play that day⚠️ Seek medical assessment⚠️ Follow a gradual, medically guided return to football
No match is worth risking a player’s long-term health.

📲 We have shared the full FIFPRO article on our Instagram Story. Tap the link in our Story to learn more about the research into heading and brain health.
