A lively evening on the water!
The conditions certainly made things interesting this evening! With the sea a little too lively, we unfortunately had to cancel our beginners’ session. Safety always comes first, and tonight wasn’t suitable for those just starting out.
That didn’t stop four of our very experienced members from heading out and making the most of it though! They had a fantastic time surfing, playing in the waves and enjoying some great rough-water paddling. Judging by the photos, there were plenty of smiles!

This is what Hastings Paddle Sports Club is all about – developing skills, gaining experience, having fun on the water and enjoying paddles with a friendly group of people.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced paddler, we’d love to welcome you to the club.

As part of our ongoing series of sea kayak discipline-specific training sessions, we had another really useful evening on the water yesterday, led by two of our experienced Paddle UK Sea Kayak Leaders.

As always, before embarking onto the water, we started with our beach briefing — brief introductions, an outline of the plan and what to expect from the session, a look at the conditions and key safety considerations, an opportunity for questions, and a final check of personal and group equipment before launching.

We had a group with a good mix of abilities, giving everyone the opportunity to work at their own level. During the session we practised a range of skills, including support strokes, rescues and efficient forward paddling, with plenty of opportunity to learn from each other and put the techniques into practice.

The steady Force 3 easterly provided some really useful training conditions. It was particularly interesting to see how the sea state changed as the direction of the tidal flow altered. Although the wind strength remained much the same, the developing wind-against-tide conditions produced noticeably bigger and livelier waves — a great practical demonstration of the relationship between wind, tide and sea state.

The training drills were soon put into real practice when, paddling with the following wind through the livelier sea conditions, a couple of unexpected capsizes occurred. Both were swiftly and calmly dealt with, reinforcing exactly why practising rescues and support skills in realistic conditions is so valuable.

We also had a rather special bonus during the evening — watching the solar eclipse from the sea as darkness temporarily encroached around us. Quite an atmospheric and memorable experience from the cockpit of a sea kayak! 🌒

A very enjoyable and productive evening on the water, combining skills development with some valuable real-world experience of changing sea conditions.

Hastings Paddle Sports Club — developing skills, building confidence and enjoying time on the water together. Whether you’re new to paddling or an experienced paddler, there’s always something more to learn.

🌊 Tuesday Club Night – Summer Paddling at Its Best! 🌊
The weather forecast for Tuesday is looking fantastic — hot, sunny and low wind, so it should be a brilliant evening to get out on the water.
It will be high tide, which should make for great conditions, but as always the session will be weather and conditions permitting.
⏰ Start time: 6.30pm
The club provides the paddling equipment, but please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for being on the water and bring a change of clothes for afterwards.
Whether you’re kayaking, SUPing or just looking to enjoy a relaxed evening on the water, Tuesday is looking like a great one.

Huge congratulations to Dave, Alan and Mark!
A massive well done to three of our Hastings Paddle Sports Club members who have completed an incredible paddle from Liverpool to Goole, navigating their way through canals and inland waterways.
This has been a fantastic achievement, covering a serious distance and taking on a real adventure along the way. It has been great following their progress, and they should all be very proud of what they have accomplished.
Well done Dave, Alan and Mark — a brilliant effort and a great example of what paddle sport is all about: adventure, determination, teamwork and getting out there on the water.
From everyone at Hastings Paddle Sports Club, congratulations! 👏
