St Ives Sailing Club

St Ives Sailing Club We are a small but friendly saiing club in St Ives, Cornwall. See http://www.stivessailingclub.com We also have a rescue craft that goes out every time we race.

The club was founded nearly forty years ago and has gone from strength to strength. For our members we have a small fleet of Picos and Topaz's, perfect for learning and developing sailing skills. They are available for use by new members and those not wishing to buy their own boat. Whatever your background or ability we always welcome new members. We try hard to keep our membership fees down but,

with the safety boat and tractor to fuel, maintain and insure, pen fees to pay and grant funding hard to come by, we have to levy the fees outlined below.We hope that they reflect the facilities that different members will use. We are always on the lookout for assistance with crewing the safety boat as well as the many other aspects of running the club, so if you have a talent that would help or a desire to learn we’d love to help you make the most of it.The club can fund nationally recognised qualifications in the operation of Safety Boats, VHF Radios and even taking on the role of Race Officer.

📣 St Ives Sailing Club – Safety Boat Drivers & Race Officers Wanted!

Are you local and interested in supporting sailing and racing in our beautiful town? If you love the sea, this is the perfect opportunity - you’ll be out on it (or looking out over it!) twice a week. 🌊💙

🚤 Safety Boat Drivers Needed!

If you enjoy being on the water, this is a fantastic way to get involved. A Powerboat Level 2 qualification is essential - but don’t worry, St Ives Sailing Club will provide the course for those joining our safety boat team (numbers limited). You’ll play a key role in keeping our sailors safe and supporting racing throughout the season.

⛵ Race Officers Wanted!

We’re also looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to sit in the tower on the pier during race days and help manage the racing. Responsibilities include:
• Overseeing race starts and finishes
• Recording results
• Ensuring races run safely and smoothly
• Learning and ensuring race rules are followed
Full guidance and training provided — no experience needed!

🚤 St Ives Sailing Club – June 2025 Update ⛵ WELCOMING NEW MEMBERS!!

What a fantastic start to the season! A huge thank you to all our amazing sailors, volunteers, and support crews — your energy, dedication, and fearless enthusiasm are helping us reinvent the club, and it’s working! 💪🌊

✨ Welcome New Members!
This month we welcomed Antonio, Elisa, Ben, Joy — plus Dean, David (with his Laser!), and Amelia on the Patrol Boat. You’ve all added brilliantly to the fun!

🍕 The Regatta That Wasn’t a Regatta
Okay, so it didn’t go exactly to plan… but it was one of the best-attended non-regattas we’ve had in years! Great sailing, great vibes, and loads of pizza.

🗓 New Event Date – Save the Date!
We’re reorganising the regatta for Saturday 6th September – more details to follow soon. Let us know if you can make it!

📚 Rules Refresher – Monday 21st July, 7PM
Mike Cook will be running a relaxed shore-based session on racing rules and sailing basics. Ideal for new (and rusty) sailors!

🏆 Sailor of the Month
Big congratulations to Jim – one of our newer members, already showing us how it’s done with a stunning race win. 👏

💸 Club Boat Fees
Just a reminder: £5 on Wednesdays / £7.50 on Saturdays. Please try to pay promptly after sailing. Juniors and novice crews often sail free with a parent or experienced helm.

🚤🌊 St Ives Sailing Club – May 2025 Highlights 🌊🚤

We’re off to a flying start this season with record new members and 7 sessions already completed — nearly double this time last year!

💥 Welcome aboard to our amazing new sailors: Sarah, Levi, Nadia, Billy, Jim, Claire, Marcus, Sophie, and Rachel! You’ve already brought fresh energy to the club.

🏅 Sailor of the Month: SARAH – for fearless enthusiasm and a ‘have-a-go’ attitude. Brilliant work!
