FINDING JOY IN THE JOURNEY

This week in our June theme exploring the Five Niyamas, we’re diving into Santosha, the yogic practice of contentment.

In a world that constantly encourages us to do more, achieve more, and become more, Santosha reminds us that happiness isn’t waiting for us just at the finish line but it can be right now.

As we approach the Summer Solstice on Sun 21st June and the brightest time of the year, we’ll be exploring how yoga can help us cultivate appreciation, presence, and gratitude for the journey we’re already on.

Many people think yoga is something we do on a mat.

A sequence, a posture, or the ability to move our bodies into complicated shapes.

But the Yamas and Niyamas remind us that yoga is so much more than that.

The five Niyamas are personal observances that guide how we care for ourselves and move through life:

Saucha: creating clarity, freshness and harmony.
Santosha: cultivating contentment.
Tapas: showing up with discipline and devotion.
Svadhyaya: self-study and reflection.
Ishvara Pranidhana: surrender and trust.

Yoga isn’t only found in the poses we practise. It can also look like the rituals that support our wellbeing: preparing nourishing food, making time for rest, spending time in nature, journalling, meditating, or simply choosing self-compassion.

The deeper practice of yoga isn’t about achieving the most advanced posture. It’s about how we live, the choices we make, and the relationship we cultivate with ourselves each day.

How are you practising the Niyamas in your life right now?

Return To Self

A half day mini Yoga & Well-Being Re:Treat in St Ives, Cornwall

There is a part of us all that exists before the external noise,
Before the roles and responsibilities,
Before the constant to do list.

This annual retreat is a dear moment in our year where we invite you to remember the person inside just waiting to feel alive again in the simplicity of experiencing yourself through movement, breath, nature, connection, sound and devotion

Through authentic yoga, breath, meditation, Kirtan, yoga philosophy and time in nature, we return to something deeper than the practise alone - we return home to ourselves.

This is an invitation to reconnect with your inner radiance, to soften, to listen, to belong again.

This week we begin exploring the Niyamas; the personal observances of yoga that guide us towards a deeper connection with ourselves.

Our first focus is Saucha, often translated as purity or cleanliness. While we may think of cleansing as something external, Saucha is equally an internal practice creating clarity, confidence, and space within.

Listen to introduce this week’s focus and discover how ancient teachings from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika can inspire simple daily rituals that purify the body, mind, and soul.

This week, explore your own rituals of Saucha:

🌿 Cleanse the mind: before reaching for your phone when you first wake up, silently repeat one thing you are grateful for and begin the day from a place of presence.

🛁 Cleanse the body: take time for self-care with an exfoliating scrub and nourishing moisturiser, honouring your body with mindful attention.

📖 Cleanse the soul: end the day with a journal brain dump, releasing thoughts onto paper to create space for clean deep, restful sleep.

Small, intentional practices can have a profound effect on how we feel, think, and move through the world.

What cleansing ritual will you be embracing this week? ✨

All we need to survive is Food, Shelter, Water and Companionship and to thrive and be happy we also require freedom

True happiness (eudaimonia) comes from living a life of virtue and striving toward one’s highest potential rather than seeking short-term pleasures.

So if we let all the other “stuff” and “wants” go what would be possible?

Shall we find out together?

Focus of the Week: Aparigraha

As we come to the final Yama in our exploration of the Yoga Sutras, this week we turn towards Aparigraha the practice of non-grasping, non-attachment, and letting go of what no longer serves us.

In the words of Ram Dass:

“A painted cake doesn’t cure the hunger.”

So often we seek fulfilment through external achievements, possessions, validation, or control, yet true contentment arises when we soften our grip and reconnect with what is already present within.

Join Emma in this short video reflection as we explore how Aparigraha can support greater freedom, peace, and authenticity in our everyday lives.

What are you holding onto that you may be ready to release?
