FUN TIME ON FINALS DAY AT ST IVES TENNIS CLUB
Huge thanks to the hard-working committee members who made this year's annual finals day such a success - and to everyone who came along to support the finalists. A sunny day helped too!

FINALS DAY 2026 CHAMPIONS AT ST IVES TENNIS CLUB
Fifteen-year-old Ruby Hampson was a three-time champion and Tristan Wynne won the Men’s Singles title for a modern-day record fourth time on “Super Sunday” tournament finals day at St Ives Tennis Club.
Ruby retained the Ladies Singles title she first won two years ago with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Natalie Oliver before teaming up with Beth Scorer to win the Ladies Doubles, beating tournament director Gill Stainton and Natalie Oliver 6-4, 6-0.
The hat-trick of victories came in the Mixed Doubles final where Ruby and Tristan Wynne battled to a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Steffi Apicella and Simon Clifford.
A top quality Men’s Singles final saw Tristan take the opening set 6-2 against 17-year-old Archie Stirling before the teenager came storming back to take the second 6-0 only to narrowly lose out as Tris secured a tense deciding tie-break 10-7.
But Archie got his hands on silverware as he partnered Eiko Thielemann to a 6-2, 6-2 Men’s Doubles win over Bill Peters and Jeremy Sharp.
Ten hours of top club tennis, watched by the biggest audience for many years, finally came to a conclusion with another close encounter as Natalie Oliver retained the Ladies Over-50 Singles cup with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 win over doubles partner Gill Stainton.
Bill Peters regained the Men's Over-50 Singles title when his final opponent was forced to withdraw from the final through injury.
Four plate consolation events saw Simon Wynne - Tristan’s brother - beat Adrian Botterell in the Men’s Singles, Jeremy Sharp defeated Mike Sinclair in the Men’s Over-50s, David Harrap and Colin Stringer beat Tim Simpson and Josh Cole in the Men’s Doubles and Rob and Lou King overcame Bill and Kath Peters in the Mixed Doubles

ST IVES LADIES A FINISH SEASON IN CHAMPION STYLE
St Ives Ladies first team, already crowned winners of Division One West in the Cornwall LTA Summer League, completed their triumphant season with a 10-0 home win over Penzance C.
The visitors were only able to field one pair but two straight sets wins clinched maximum points for St Ives.
Steffi Apicella and Carolyn Brown won 6-0, 6-2, with Millie Millard and Natalie Oliver winning 6-2, 6-1 to extend the team's victorious run to 11 matches since losing their opening fixture of the season.
Ruby Hampson, playing in a tournament in Newquay, missed the celebrations after making a big contribution as ever-present Steffi's partner in the other 11 matches.

ST IVES MEN’S A KEEP THEIR PLACE IN THE PREMIER DIVISION
St Ives Men’s A ensured that they will be playing in the top tier of Cornwall tennis next season as they ended their 2026 Summer League campaign with a 10-0 home victory over bottom-of-the-table St Agnes A.
Will Stirling and Eiko Thiellemann won 6-1, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-1 with team captain Matt Trevorrow and Tristan Wynne posting 6-3, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-2 victories.

St Ives hit their best form in the final two matches of a tough season to pull away from the relegation zone and finish with five wins from their 12 matches.
Eleven players appeared during the season with Matt Trevorrow playing nine matches, Eiko Thiellemann – currently fifth in the division’s individual player stats table – and Will Stirling playing eight each, James Full seven, Archie Stirling six, Freddie Stone three, Pete Belfield and Bill Peters two, and Simon Clifford, Tristan Wynne and Joe Harper one each.

ST IVES MEN’S B FINISH WITH A FLOURISH
St Ives Men’s B finished their disappointing season in winning style as they beat Bude A 8-2 at home to record their second Cornwall LTA Summer League County Division victory in the space of three days.
Team captain Bill Peters and Josh Cole won both their rubbers, beating the visiting second pair 6-4, 6-4 before overcoming the Bude first pair on a champions tie-break.
After losing the opening set 6-1, they bounced back to take the second 7-6 before also securing the first to 10 points shoot-out.
James Brown and Tristan Wynne dropped their first rubber but took the second 6-2, 6-4 to ensure St Ives also collected the two winning bonus points.

ST IVES MEN’S A CLOSE TO STAYING IN THE PREM
St Ives Men’s A team’s hopes of avoiding relegation from the Cornwall LTA Summer League Premier Division improved significantly as they recorded a 10-0 home win over a depleted Truro B.
Will Stirling and James Full won 6-1, 6-0, with Eiko Thielemann and Matt Trevorrow coming through 6-1, 6-1 as Truro, who were only able to field one pair, conceded the other two rubbers.
Depending on an outstanding result involving relegation rivals Heron Tennis Centre B from Newquay, St Ives could still need three points from Sunday’s final re-arranged match against already releated St Agnes to ensure they stay in the Premier Division.

SURPRISE UPSET COUNTY DIVISION VICTORY FOR ST IVES MEN’S B
Bottom-of-the-table St Ives B pulled off the shock County Division win of the season as they beat leaders Penzance A 8-5 in the Cornwall LTA Summer League.
With only one previous draw to their credi, the newly-promoted St Ives team achieved their first victory of an under-achieving season.
James Brown (Pictured left) and Tristan Wynne (pictured right), back in Cornwall and playing his first league match of the season, beat the Penzance first pair 6-4, 7-6 with Bill Peters and Rob King picking up a set before losing the second and dropping the 10-point deciding shoot-out to the Penzance second pair.
Brown and Wynne won the opening set of their second rubber with Penzance taking the other first set, leaving St Ives 4-3 ahead on sets, before the faltering light saw the unfinished sets shared with St Iaves also claiming the two winning bonus points.

ST IVES LADIES A ARE CROWNED CHAMPIONS
Congratulations to St Ives Ladies first team who have clinched the Cornwall LTA Summer League Division One West title ahead of their final match of the season.
With their main rivals recently dropping points, St Ives, now 14 points clear at the top of the table, cannot be caught.
Unbeaten on a 10-match run since losing their opening fixture of the season they were awaiting the outcome of other matches before facing Penzance C in their final clash.
But Falmouth, the last team who could overtake them, were beaten 7-2 on their visit to Redruth who leapfrogged them to move into second place, leaving St Ives as champions.
Team captain Steffi Apicella and 15-year-old Ruby Hampson – the top two players in the division’s individual stats table as they shared 19 wins from 22 rubbers – led the title charge as ever-presents in the 11 matches played so far.
They had great support from Millie Millard, in her first season of senior Cornwall League tennis, and Natalie Oliver, who only came into the team last season. Millie has nine out of 18 rubbers wins with Natalie recording eight from 16.
The consistent commitment of the four regulars has been a big factor in this season’s success with Carolyn Brown (four wins in six rubbers) and Gill Stainton (three from four) stepping in to supplement a great squad effort when needed.

CONGRATULATIONS to Dave Murthwaite, a member at St Ives and Penzance tennis clubs, and his PZ partner Bryn Heald on winning the 60+ Mixed Doubles at last week’s 76th Penzance Open tournament.
They were crowned champions after overcoming Jon Atter and Helena Luke 6-3, 7-5 in the final.
Dave Murthwaite and David Stevens were runners-up in the Men’s Doubles 65+ event
St Ives player Eiko Thielemann was a two-time runner-up, in the Men’s 55+ Doubles and the Mixed 45+ Doubles while Tony Wong reached the Men’s Handicap Singles semi-final where he took eventual champion Ben Wareing to three sets before bowing out.
