> My equestrian story
My dressage career was a hobby that took on a life of its own! A rider since I was a child and fairly successful on Pony Club and Riding Club Teams, it was only after finishing university I became hooked on dressage and my temperamental Arab mare was subjected to endless circles and persuaded that sideways was the way to go. She tolerated it well but the freestyle to music was always our favourite. I moved to another level when my father bought Jay for his retirement and we trained with Steven Clarke through Northern Dressage Group. Steven is an inspiration and we progressed to the dizzy heights of PSG, working with a number of exceptional trainers along the way. It was when I was competing regularly that I was curious to see what the judges view was, so began over 20 years of BD judging, I am now a list 3a judge, Para and RDA judge. I have judged at Pet Plan Area Festivals, BD Regionals and Premier Leagues, Pony Club and Riding Club Championships, RDA Regionals and Nationals and Para National Championships and I'm constantly looking to upgrade and learn more. To create an all-round picture of the sport I love, I added to my BHSAI with the UKCC2 and my Para coaches accreditation. As I worked with different riders at all levels I got to appreciate that mindset is so important in the development of a horse and rider and started my NLP journey I now have my NLP Master Coach and Trainers certification and can create wonderful changes in a riders mindset and pass on the secrets of powerful communication to coaches and trainers with the practitioner certification course. I now coach clients of all levels on all types of horses, from nervous leisure riders to those competing on the national squads. I use a balanced riding approach working with horse and rider as a partnership to achieve maximum performance from both, helping equestrian partners to smash their goals and get the most out of their riding.
