Bryan had some fun entering the USSF Strengthlifting Virtual Spring Classic this week. Celebrating his Birthday with a deadlift PR.

Bryan has been Strength lifting for about 18 months and has noticed life getting easier despite his advancing age and is enjoying the challenge of mastering a new skill.

Huge congratulations to David who is an online only client on his 2nd PB of this Marathon training cycle.

At the weekend he added a 10k personal best to a shiny new half marathon best from last month and is well on his way to hitting his goal time in Manchester next month.

David combines online strength training with his running in an effort to run faster and stay injury free. I'm able to flex his personalised training plan around his running goals. Dropping down to 2 sessions a week when he's 'marathon training' to maintain strength, then switch to 3 times a week in the off season to build more strength and go again.

Now would be a great time to add strength training to your schedule if you're signing up to an Autumn marathon. If you want to find out more about adding strength training to your sports schedule get in touch!

Pretty sad taking the cage down today; Studio is out of action for a few days while I get a cupboard taken out and some better lighting installed. Also no more staring at Artex during Bench.

Have managed to reallocate everyone to home visits or earlier in the week to start the year off STRONG.

Intro to Running - week 2 starts today!

This week we'll be doing C25k week 1 so
🚶- 5 minute walking warm up
⏲ - 8 x 1 min run/jog and 1min 30 walking recovery
🚶- 5 minute walking cool down

Total time 30minutes with a nice little progression from last week as we increase the time spent running and decrease the recoveries.

Huge well done to the group who turned up for the first session of the new Intro to Running group - sorry I couldn't offer better weather!
By request I've added a second evening.
I'll be hosting on a Monday and Thursday going forward; both nights will be doing to the same session so you can come to one, or the other, or even both if you're feeling keen!

Week 1 of Intro to Running tonight we'll be completing this figure of 8 loop together.

Session goals:
🗣 Get to know each other
🫁 Focus on breathing

What will we be doing?
⬆ 5 minutes walking warm up
⏲ 8 lots of 30 seconds run/jog 🏃 with 2 minute walking recoveries 🚶
⬇ 5 minutes walking warm down

Starting on 4th October I'll be running an Intro to Running group starting/ending at The Silver Ball @ 18:30 on Monday nights.

Aimed at complete beginners, no fitness or experience is necessary. Sign up for a run using the link and turn up wearing comfortable clothing and trainers - although the brighter the better because the evening are starting to draw in!

A keep me going group will be starting in the New Year for those of you already running 30min +

An exercise group for all, well behaved dogs on short leads are welcome, and you're more than welcome to stay on afterwards for a chat and beverage in the pub.

Why Stronger? Why Barbells?

So a few years ago if you'd told me I'd be doing Deadlifts and heavy squats several times a week I'd have wanted to know what you'd been smoking - I'm a runner, and not a sprinter, a marathon runner, a real life endurance monster... so how did I find the barbell?

Honestly it was an accident. I got injured. The rehab the Physio gave me wasn't helping and I was getting frustrated. I met my own coach and mentor, he set me up squating with good form and the rest is history.

Now I can not only run again, when the doctors and physios who treated my injury had told me the only way I'd move pain free again was through knee surgery, but I'm also faster and healthier than before.

Looking forward to getting you strong too, because it really has changed my life!
