Golfers – have you had a Hole in One? It’s one of the iconic milestones in any golfer’s bingo card.

One of our members, Bobby, AKA Bobby’s Kitchen played in the medal competition recently and one of his playing partners sent us this photo – it was taken from behind the hole at the 1st. Just how close must this have been to going in! We’re sure all golfers will sympathise with Bobby.

One of our members, Jimmy Quinn, recently completed one of Macmillan Cancer Support’s Mighty Hikes. In fact, it was more than a hike. It was a Marathon, 26.4 miles, from Alnwick to Alnmouth then up the coast to Bamburgh.

Jimmy took the hike with his wife and two daughters, a lovely family experience on what looks like a lovely day; don’t they all look so fresh even after 26 miles – well done the Mighty Quinns!

Many of the St Boswells members have already donated but if you wanted to make a donation, no matter how little or large, their page is still open.

Next Saturday, the 19th, sees the annual match for the TWEED CUP with members from Newtown taking on the St Boswells lads, the defending champions.

Alan Smith the St Boswells’ Captain is seen here lifting the trophy in 2025 which was won by a single point. Will the St Boswells team be smiling again or will they be like the Newton Captain David Shiel (S***g) and wearing the dunces hat? Only time will tell.

The Team Captains 2026 are Simon Taylor, St Boswells, and Chris (P***y) Bell Newtown St Boswells.

This match is played in a Ryder Cup Format – singles and foursomes which means the course and clubhouse will be closed all day.

There have been a number of donations to help the club with the cost of the match, which we really do appreciate.

This year the Tweed Cup is being sponsored, by Macvicars Of Melrose the top quality butcher in Melrose.

Winners today:
Overall 3rd place, £35 voucher each player, team Chambers, score 54.30

2nd place, £50 voucher each player, team Wear score 54.28

And the winners receiving a £75 voucher each player, team Higginson score with a nett score of 54.

This Sunday sees us host a Texas Scramble generously sponsored by Brian Wear Joiner & Contractor Ltd.

In a previous post we mentioned that this event has previously been very popular and it’s proving to be the same again this year. At the time of writing there are literally one or two individual slots available which might be taken by the time this message circulates.

If you want to make a last minute check, please contact the club – details are in the poster.

Obviously we are sorry if you miss out – the course is in great condition just now and there are some wonderful prizes on offer.

For Brian and his company we are delighted that his sponsored event is again proving so popular and we wish him and all the competitors the best for Sunday.

There are only a few spaces remaining in the Ladies Greensomes and the Brian Wear Texas Scramble – the Greensomes is on the 2nd September, and the Texas on the 6th. Details of both competitions are in the posters.

Entering the competitions is easy – just contact the club of use Master Scoreboard.

The course is looking good and holding up very well despite the hot summer we’ve had – don’t miss the chance to come and see for yourself.

The last Open of the current season is a Texas Scramble on Sunday 6th September. The 4-person teams can be mixed.

This Texas Scramble has been very popular in recent years … tee-times are available, but probably not for long.

The St Boswells GENTS OPEN sponsored by SB & Co – RESULTS

First of all, a big thank you to the Scottish Borders Knackery (SB & CO) for their generous sponsorship of the event.

There was some superb scoring on a lovely day and on a very well-prepared course.

The Scratch Prize was won by A Simpson (69),
S Makepeace Runner Up (71).

It was just as close in the Handicap Division:
L Anderson (62), D Ogden (63), and G Flannigan (63).

The ‘fun’ prizes were won by:
Nearest the Pin at the 2nd/11th C Phaup.
Nearest at the 4th / 13th C MacDonald.
Nearest the Horseshoe 6th/15th B Wear and
Nearest the Pin in Two at the 8th/17th C Rodwell.

Finally, a thank you to all the competitors and as always, without the number of people who volunteer and help out in so many ways – well done. We couldn’t do it without you.
