Flow Martial Arts Cornwall

Flow Martial Arts Cornwall FMA is a martial arts and personal development group that teaches modern and traditional systems. Many people often ask what 'style' is it.

Our main focus at this time is on applied self defence training (hosinsul) which is practical self defence training that covers both fundamental and advanced strategies to first avoid confrontation and then take appropriate steps to protect yourself and those in need.. High levels of fitness are not needed to begin with and you will develop what we call functional fitness over time. There are no h

igh kicks or hugely acrobatic techniques involved in self defence/ hosinsul training

There is contact in classes and pair/partner work is common although you must feel comfortable with your training partner. At some point you would be expected to spar/roll but this will be done on a sliding scale of time and confidence based on the individual (some people are happy from day one others will take as long as it takes). Our hosinsul/self defence syllabus covers work across all ranges of combat from pre-fight, striking, control techniques and grappling but always with a focus on self defence and escape/avoidance before control and destruction. We do not train for combat sports but do share many of the techniques used. Essentially the hosinsul programme is MMA (Tonghabmusul)for self defence and combines elements from Taekwon-Do, Hapkido,Yusul (Korean term for Jiu jitsu) and krav maga. If you are a complete beginner or an experienced martial artist who wants to expand/review his/her repertoire, or just want to train in a relaxed atmosphere please get in contact to discuss your options. We have one major rule...'leave your ego at the door.'

There are no contracts or long term commitments although payments for group classes are made on a monthly basis to allow continuity. Pay as you go sessions are available but at an increased rate. Membership of £20 per year is needed to cover personal insurance and admin costs for club members. Trial lessons are available by arrangement. Private and small group sessions are subject to arrangement and discounts are available for members and/or block bookings. FMA is a registered member of the British combat association and WKO (world kickboxing organisation). We also have links with other prestigious Korean organizations. Head coach Mr Stefan Sanson is an experienced martial artist with over 30 years of training, competing and teaching and has also been a school teacher for 25 years. He does not claim for one second to be a 'supreme master' ,a world champion or have the ability to use the force but is confident he can help you progress in your martial arts journey.

A few stills from our Hapkido session last night. Our new batch of beginners! (Some black belts in other styles) and others long overdue.
We were putting them through their paces and filming ready for assessment/ promotion to yellow belt. Last night we filmed the sonmokpaegi (breakaways) and ohboksul (clothing grabs). Next week we'll film the sonmoksuls (wrist defences) and then it'll be over to Master Soger for final approval.

Train hard and have fun.
