We have taken the time to reflect on some of the comments and concerns regarding the installation of ANPR cameras in the St Dennis Working Men's Club car park and feel it is important to provide some clarification.
Firstly, this was not a decision that was taken lightly. The club has experienced numerous issues over the last year, including fly tipping, abandoned and broken-down vehicles being left on site, and even the storage of stolen vehicles. These incidents have caused significant headaches for the committee and have taken considerable time and effort to resolve.
Contrary to some suggestions, this is not a money-making scheme for the club. The cost of installing the cameras, signage, and the day-to-day running of the system is being fully absorbed by an external car park management company, so they are the ones to benefit from any revenue generated.
We also fought extremely hard to secure a 30-minute grace period, which exceeds the initial period of 10 minutes which is the normal agreement.
Most importantly, this is a private car park owned by St Dennis Working Men's Club for our customers and visitors to use. They can register their vehicle details and continue to enjoy free parking for 24 hours while using our facilities.
The sole purpose of introducing ANPR is to protect our property, ensure parking spaces remain available for legitimate users, and prevent the ongoing problems that have repeatedly affected the club.
As we originally stated, we appreciate that not everyone will agree with the decision, but we hope this explanation helps people understand why it has been absolutely necessary.
