💜 SHADOWS V HAYLE 4 💜

Shadows were back on court for their second game in 24 hours tonight as they hosted Hayle 4s at Penrice.

Drama ensued before the whistle blew as Captain Sam had forgotten her trainers meanwhile Gemma was caught in traffic meaning she missed the first quarter, luckily a speedy trip to ASDA solved the shoe issue as Shadows took to the court looking for their second win of the week. Another strong opener saw Sils net 12 by the interval thanks to some great shooting from Sam and Dani while the mid court of Lana, Antonia and Rach were in control both in and out of possession. Molly and Tegan continued last night’s fine form ensuring Hayle were unable to score.

Tegan replaced Sam at GS while Gemma went to GK, Antonia to WD, Steph to C and Lana completed the switch around as she moved to WA. The changes did not alter Shadows’ dominance as the girls continued to work on simple passing and continuous offering which meant they could work the ball down court and into the circle with ease while in possession. Defensively the whole team were strong, grabbing multiple turnovers and held balls which saw Sils cruise into half time 25-2 ahead.

More changes saw Tegan back at GK, Gemma in GD, Antonia in WD and Sam back on in GS with a pair of new shoes that Paolo Nutini would be proud of. Shadows continued to add to their advantage with Rach and Steph sending in some great feeds to our shooters who made great use of the circle while their shooting was on form. In the mid court, Antonia put in a strong defensive shift at WD while Gemma and Tegan bossed the circle, picking up rebounds and misplaced passes to keep Hayle’s score down to 5 while Shadows racked up an impressive 39.

After a great performance, Steph was replaced by Rach at C while Molly went back on at GD, Gemma went to WD and Antonia took on WA for the final ten minutes. Hayle rallied in the last quarter, playing their best Netball of the game and adding more goals then they had in the previous quarters despite a valiant effort from Tegs and Molly in the defending circle. Gem was everywhere at WD, picking up several interceptions and offering support to the attack down court while Sam and Dani added another flurry of goals to the score sheet after some lovely link up play with Antonia and Rach. Final score Shadows 52 - 11 Hayle 4.

Well done girls - another convincing win and great performance! 💜

Thanks to Heather for umpiring for us, Beth for scoring and Antonia’s Mum for her support.

💜 SHADOWS V HAYLE 5 💜

Shadows were in action down in Camborne tonight as they faced Hayle 5s in the social league.

It was a scrappy affair as the game began but Shadows were able to turn this to their advantage as the ball was fed down court and into the circle with tenacity by the mid court of Rach, Lana and Antonia. Shooters Sam and Dani were hot property this evening, not only with accurate shooting but great movement and use of the circle edge to give Shadows a healthy 15 goal lead at the break while the defensive partnership of Gemma and Tegan prevented Hayle from scoring.

Molly was introduced for Tegan in the second quarter as Shadows continued to dominate with great teamwork throughout the court. The game had settled nicely and the girls worked hard for each other, battling for every ball and making it hard for our opponents. Sam and Dani amassed another incredible 15 goals while Molly and Gemma continued to put up a strong defensive wall, with a half time score of 30-2.

In the third period, Tegan came back on at GK for Gemma and linked up well with Molly as they guarded the post with authority, preventing Hayle from scoring and picking up lovely interceptions to send the ball to the Shadows midcourt who did well to work the ball into the Shadows shooters to convert, as they increased their lead to 41-2.

For the final ten, Tegan went to GA for Dani and the mission was to keep it simple with direct passing and good offering for the ball. The girls certainly delivered as they steadily added to their lead and continued to keep Hayle’s score down to solidify the 54-2 win.

Well done girls - a great win and performance from all of you.

Thanks to Shannon for umpiring 💜

💜 SNIPERS V PENZANCE 3 💜

Snipers hosted Penzance 3s tonight for their final game of the season.

In the initial minutes the teams were evenly matched as they went goal for goal, but as Sils settled in they began to tick defensively leading to multiple turnovers from defenders Georgie and Beth which were fed safely down court and into the circle for Jada and Vic to slot away. Snipers built on this momentum, as the mid court of Luka, Soph and Jaimee made the most of the space on court with some impressive passages of play before the latter two sent some lovely feeds into the circle for the Sils’ shooters to convert, leading to a 6 goal advantage at the break.

The second quarter was more even, as Penzance played some great Netball of their own to keep themselves in the game, but Snipers won the quarter 12-11 with the score standing at 28-21 as the whistle blew for half time.

A little swap in the mid court between Jaimee (C) and Soph (WA) gave Snipers impetus to push on in the third period, as the attackers continued to impress with slick passes down court while Luka was always on hand at WD to offer the reset as needed. At the other end, Beth and Georgie were a tight unit in the defensive circle, stifling tonight’s opposition and allowing them to score just 6 in the quarter.

In the last fifteen, Sils continued to assert themselves. Jada and Vic were fantastic in the shooting circle, with excellent movement and holds to create space for feeders Jaimee and Soph to utilise, not to mention some exceptional and consistently accurate shooting. In the final minutes, a collision between Jaimee and Vic saw the later leave the court through injury. Captain Beth was quick to shuffle the team around as Shadows’ Antonia was introduced from the bench at WD while Jaimee picked up where Vic left off in the circle. Despite the excitement, Snipers continued with a steadfast team performance to win the quarter 16-9 and seal the victory with a final score of 56-37.

Well done girls - a real team performance from you all and another great game!

Thank you to everyone who came to support, Antonia and Lana for subbing/scoring and Hen for umpiring for us.

Another great season for Snipers who finish the division in 2nd place after promotion to Div 3 last season. The goal was to stay up and the girls excelled themselves!! A special mention must go to Cally and Ashley for their efforts in the first half of the season too, and to Claudia who didn’t play tonight but who has been great all season.

💜 SNIPERS V NEWQUAY 4 💜

Snipers hosted Newquay’s 4th team tonight in their penultimate game of the season. Storm are a young, agile and physical side so the girls knew it would be a tough game!

The match began pretty evenly with the teams going goal for goal, however after a few minutes Newquay quickly asserted themselves as they took the lead despite a strong effort from Sils defenders Georgie and Beth. At the other end, Sils shooters Vic and Jada were in fine form with some impressive shooting, however, the attack at times found it hard to work the ball into the circle, with a few passes just missing their mark and giving Storm turnovers which meant they lead 15-8 at the break.

Jaimee was introduced at GS to change things up a bit for Sils, and the fresh legs really gave us a much needed boost in the attacking third, as the ball zipped down the court and into the shooting circle at pace throughout, leading to a flurry of goals and the defecit reduced to just one at half time.

After a positive team talk the girls were back on court ready to compete for the game. The feeding into the circle from Claudia and Soph was sublime, as it had been all game, with Jaimee and Vic combining nicely in the circle to evade the impressive Newquay defence and convert. Meanwhile, the workrate from Sils’ defence was fantastic; Luka was all over the court and nabbed some lovely interceptions while Georgie and Beth applied the pressure in the circle to gain possession and create a consistent level of turnovers which had Sils ahead by several goals. Storm fought back though, and managed to regain the upper hand, commanding a 29-27 lead at the whistle.

In the final fifteen, Sils had opportunities to draw level but an exhausting game was beginning to take its toll while Newquay were able to introduce fresh legs with some tactical changes. This gave them the edge as they increased their lead to 5, however, Snipers rallied in the dying moments to reduce the defecit to a single goal, with the game concluding 39-38 to our opponents.

A fantastic game for our spectators who did a great job of cheering the girls on, and they certainly deserved it. Although we didn’t get the win tonight, the tenacity shown by all to reduce the defecit in that second quarter was amazing, well done girls - you fought hard for every ball and put in one hell of a performance!

Thanks to our umpires and good luck to them with their assessments 🤞🏻

💜 SHADOWS V BAYSIDE TIDES 💜

Thursday 9th of April, Shadows headed down to Penzance to face the Bayside tides at the Mounts Bay Dome.

Thanks to a flat tyre en route and some further miscommunication as a result, Shadows were to start the game 40 minutes late, with only 6 plays versus Tides full 7, and Rach (a usual mid-court speedster) picking up a shooting role.

Whilst the circumstances put Shadows on the back foot from the off, the team went into the game with a ‘lets-just-enjoy-it’ mindset. This resulted in calm, collected play on court with the whole team rallying together to put in a solid shift throughout.

Gemma at GK and Lana at GD worked well together to keep Bayside’s goals to a minimum. Meg at C and Antonia at WA flew around the mid court, more than compensating for the missing WD and progressing play up to Rach and Dani in GA and GS who successfully converted shot after shot. Also a shout out to Tegan and Molly, who would have been there, but instead spent the evening on the side of the road waiting for recovery. 🚗

Shadows’ high morale and great teamwork meant that they maintained a steady lead throughout the game, resulting in a 34-17 win at full time - well done. 💜💪🏻

💜 SHADOWS V HELSTON 💜

After a tough game on Monday, Shadows were in action again tonight when they hosted Helston at Penrice.

The game got off to a scrappy but even start, with both teams’ eagerness to get the ball into their respective attacking circles leading to some misplaced passing which meant the first ten ended with a 6-6 stalemate.

In the second period, Meg and Rach combined well in the mid court, as they presented great options to work the ball into Sils shooters Sam and Dani while Steph was on hand to offer the reset if needed. Meanwhile, Gemma and Lana continued to impress with their defensive partnership, winning interceptions and keeping the opposition under pressure to aid Sils into the half time break 12-10 ahead.

Captain Sam came off as GS for a breather after battling a terrible cold all week and was replaced by Tegan at GS who was also poorly - what a pair of troopers! Tegan and Dani linked up nicely, with great movement in the circle and excellent support from Rach and Meg to ensure prominent positioning under the post to get shots underway. The girls worked tirelessly all down court to turn Helston’s centres and increase their lead.

Sam came back on at GS while Tegan moved to GA for the final quarter. The defence continued to put on a dominant display, limiting Helston to just 4 goals while Shadows attack consistently bolstered their advantage with excellent passages of play down court and into the circle to give the girls a well deserved 25-20 win.

Well done team - a great performance and result.

Thanks to Sarah for umpiring and to Beth and our other supporters 💜

💜 SHADOWS V HAYLE 3 💜

On Monday night Shadows welcomed Hayle’s thirds to Tregorrick for their second game of the season, with the squad plagued with illness and injury, the girls knew it would be a tough game.

The first quarter was even stevens, with both teams capitalising on some lovely attacking play. Shooters Sam and Dani did well to convert the majority of their shots after some lovely feeding into the circle from Rach and Meg in WA and C. The score was 8 a piece at the break.

In the second period, Hayle just had the edge where their quick transitions of play aided them to add to the scoresheet with consistency, despite a strong defensive performance from Lana and Gemma in the circle. This meant Hayle went into half time two ahead.

The occasion seemed to just get the better of Shadows as the game went on, with Sils not utilising the support of Lana and Antonia who were ever present. In efforts to get the ball forward, some rushed passing and long bombs not reaching their intended target gave Hayle the opportunity to turn our centre and capitalise as our opponents extended their lead to 25-17.

After some great interceptions by the defence, Shadows began to find their rhythm as they racked up several goals in quick succession in a bid to eat away at the defecit. Unfortunately it was too big a mountain to climb, and Hayle rallied as the clock ticked town to cruise to a 39-24 win.

Well done girls - a strong effort against a very good side.

Thanks to Heather for umpiring for us and to Beth and Luka for scoring and timing!

💜 SNIPERS V CSM 1 💜

Snipers traveled down to Penryn on Monday to face CSM 1, who they beat considerably in their first game at the start of the season. Yesterday’s match told a different story though with a much stronger performance from CSM.

The match started fairly evenly, with both teams working the ball well down court, ending with CSM only one goal up.

Despite the efforts of Snipers’ attack, CSM’s defence made it difficult to get the ball into the circle, with countless interceptions which they then converted, ending the half 5 goals up.

Despite the goal deficit, Snipers kept their heads up with strong performances from the whole team, but connections didn’t seem to be working for them as misplaced passes and small errors meant that CSM maintained their lead throughout.

The match ended 36-31 to CSM, a frustrating loss but a great effort from everyone on court.

Thanks to Hen for coaching, and Stacey for umpiring for us.💜

💜 SNIPERS V LASTONET AQUAS 💜

Snipers made the long journey down to Camborne this evening to face Lastonet Aqua.

Lastonet came out of the blocks firing in the first quarter, as they amassed a strong lead with some quickfire passing that took Snipers by surprise. Sils managed to settle in the final minutes and claw back the deficit as we went into the break 11-7 down.

Claudia replaced Soph at C for the second period as Sils continued to eat away at Aqua’s lead. Jada and Vic controlled the attacking circle well while the feeding into them from Jaimee and Claudia was delivered with pinpoint accuracy. Meanwhile, at the other end, Georgie and Beth began to get the measure of the Lastonet attack as they picked up rebounds meaning Sils had the opportunity to turn their opponent’s centre. Lastonet went into half time with a one goal advantage.

Soph came back on at C with Claudia replacing Jaimee at WA. Lastonet began to tire after an intense performance in the first half, while Snipers came into their stride in comparison. Sils worked the ball down court well, using the reset options provided by Beth and Luka when needed, to ensure possession wasn’t wasted and the ball made it into our attacking circle for Jada and Vic to send to goal with some fantastic shooting sending Snipers into the break ahead for the first time with a 33-25 lead.

Soph moved to WD in the final quarter with Jaimee taking back the C bib. The girls went into the final fifteen knowing the game was in their hands, as they continued to excel and increase their lead. Georgie and Beth were strong in the defensive circle, forcing errors and grabbing rebounds with support from Soph who put in an exceptional shift. Jaimee and Claudia continued to utilise all aspects of the court as the ball was pinged into shooters Jada and Vic on repeat to put away as Sils sailed to a 45-30 victory.

Well done girls - a resilient and gritty performance from you all tonight!

Thanks to Annie for umpiring for us and to Antonia for scoring and subbing!
