The British Journal of Sports Medicine found that people who exercise five or more days of the week had a lowered number of upper respiratory tract infections (common cold, flu, and other viruses) over a 12 week period by more than 40%.

On Saturday June 5th we are hosting our first of a series of events at Paragon Fitness. has worked a number of sporting governing bodies, working with elite athletes through to the general population helping them implement strategies to work towards their goals. Whether that is optimising performance, fat loss or general health.

In the talk Calum will discuss principles on managing body fat, muscle gain and health in this 60 minute seminar.

This week is Mental health awareness week and it is a topic that should be spoken about frequently. So here is our advice on managing and staying on top of our mental health.

1. Own it. If you are experiencing anxiety, depression, chronic sadness anything. Don’t run. Acknowledge it. Because ultimately we have permission to feel whatever the hell you want to feel. From someone who spent years running from their emotions- trying to be ‘strong’. Taking ownership and recognising the emotion and almost making peace with it is one of the best things you can do.

2. Explore it’s truth. We are big advocates of benefits of journalling and cannot recommend it enough. Taking that time the check in with yourself and explore ‘why am I feeling this way?’. The mind is there to find the potential for drama in a situation. It is a protective mechanism. So exploring the source of why we might feel the way we do is so important to then we can take action accordingly.

3. Support network is everything. You have the power to cultivate the support network you need. Sometimes this is the last thing we want to do. But just fu***ng do it. Speak to the people you want to speak to. But then also recognise your own needs. Building positive mental health isn’t just a tonne of vulnerable and difficult conversations. For me, it was making sure I had more masculine time- just chatting crap about football. It was making some time for more adventure in my life (even just 15 minutes). So I urge you to cultivate the support network you want to create. Create the inner circle of love where you feel safe and lean in. But also look at the people and activities that are going to give you feeling of fulfilment.
