Being on retreat is a bit like being a deep-sea diver. You descend beneath the surface of everyday life and explore the hidden depths of yourself — sometimes discovering unexpected gems and pearls, sometimes having to wade through a fair bit of mud and muck to get there!

And when it’s time to come back up for air, you can’t just shoot straight to the surface. You need to decompress. To come up slowly. To give your body and mind time to adjust before stepping back into the noise and busyness of everyday life.

So, as I return from a wonderful retreat at The Sharpham Trust with and ., I’ve been taking care to make sure I don’t get the bends! Mostly by hanging out with my tree-climbing pup. 🐾🌳

I did do a little work this morning, though, and you’ll find a little love letter in your inbox — a permission to pause, my 'note to self' with all the things I’d like to remember as I slowly return to the surface. They might useful for you too if youre feeling overwhelmed.

If you haven’t received it, check your inbox or sign up for my newsletter. 💌

And then the time came to sit with it all.
The grief.
The sadness.
The wishing things were different.
The moments when I feel the loss deeply in my bones.

Not to wallow in it and not to try to make it disappear either. And definitely not to find some neat lesson or silver lining.

Just to acknowledge what’s here.

I’ve arrived at the beautiful The Sharpham Trust for a Mindful Compassion Retreat — a few days to slow down, turn inward and practice meeting what's here with a little more kindness.

Grief is part of my life now, but it isn’t all of my life. There is still laughter, connection, curiosity, adventure, yoga, nature and so much to be grateful for.

Perhaps compassion is simply allowing all of those things to exist together.

So this week, I’m giving myself permission to pause, breathe, feel what needs to be felt — and be right where I am.

And meanwhile, while I’m doing just that, I have wonderful cover teachers looking after my classes 🙏

See you next week 💚

Today’s yoga teacher has four legs… 🐾

Lesson 1: Relax.
Really relax. Don’t just lie down while mentally writing your to-do list 😂

Lesson 2: Be where your feet are.
Not yesterday. Not tomorrow. Right here. Right now.

Lesson 3: Stick your tongue out occasionally.
Because life is far too serious sometimes 😂

Lesson 4: Find joy in the simple things.
A walk. A patch of sunshine. A good stretch. Someone you love beside you 😍

She's very wise. Think I might need to book another session 😅

Yoga has been used for so many things.
Strength. Flexibility. Fitness. Stress relief. Better sleep. A calmer mind. A stronger body.

And yes, yoga can offer us all of those things.

But beneath the postures, the breathwork and everything we’ve come to associate with yoga, there is something much deeper.

At its heart, yoga is about returning to ourselves.

Returning to the part of us that is still whole beneath the busyness, the expectations, the worries and the changes life brings.

The part of us that hasn’t been broken by the difficult days and the messiness of being human.

The part that remains steady, even when life doesn’t feel that way.

Farewell summer. Hello autumn 🍂
August was full of adventures, new friendships and plenty of practice, and I’m so grateful for all of it.

But alongside the adventures, there’s also been a slow realisation that I’m entering year two of widowhood — and honestly, it hasn’t really got any easier.

There are days when I feel strong, connected, curious and excited about what’s ahead… and there are other days when the absence of someone who was such a huge part of my life feels incredibly present.

I’m learning that both things can be true.
I can be grateful for where life is taking me while still missing what I’ve lost. I can laugh, make plans, meet new people, travel, teach, create and look forward — without leaving my grief behind.

And perhaps that’s what this next season is about for me: not trying to move on, but continuing to move forward, gently and in my own way. Making space for whatever is here, finding moments of connection and joy, and remembering to slow down when I need to.

It’s also a big part of why I love what I teach. Yoga, breath, meditation, sound and simply coming together with other people can give us a little space to pause, reconnect and take care of ourselves — whatever season of life we happen to be in.

So as autumn arrives, I’m looking forward to creating more of those spaces for you too. 🍂

Classes, sound sessions and retreats are coming up this autumn — places to slow down, breathe, move, rest and reconnect.

Maybe we’ll share some of that space together 💚

🍂 The season is changing — and perhaps you are too!

After the openness and spontaneity of summer, many of us begin to feel the familiar pull towards routine again. It kind of feels like a new year! Back to work, back to schedules, back to the everyday.

And transitions can be felt in the body. Even when change is expected, our nervous system can wobble a little as we adjust.

So rather than rushing straight into autumn, what if we paused to gather what summer has given us?

What has grown in you?
What have you learned?
What has brought you joy?
What feels ready to be celebrated, completed or released?
And what space could you create for whatever comes next?

This is your personal harvest 🌾

Late summer is such a beautiful threshold — a chance to slow down, take stock and gently reconnect with yourself before the deeper, quieter energy of autumn arrives.

And that’s exactly what my September offerings are all about.

They'll provide a space to breathe, move, reflect, release and restore. And here's where you can join me:

🍂 Sun 6 Sept, 09.30-13.30 Awakening Wonder Mini Retreat
🍂 Sun 20 Sept 10.00-13.00 Autumn Equinox Gathering
🍂 Fri 25 Sept 19.00-21.00 The Sound & Sleep Series

No pressure to have it all figured out.
No need to rush into the next season.

Just an invitation to pause, listen and make space for what’s next.

If you’re feeling that pull to slow down and reset, I’d love you to join me. ✨

A little pause for the mind, body and nervous system ✨

The next Sound & Sleep session is 25 September, and this time we’re exploring ways to soothe the mind and create the conditions for deeper rest and better sleep.

Through reflection, mindful movement, breathwork, meditation and, of course, a long, delicious crystal bowl sound bath 🔮✨

Come as you are, leave a little more rested.

Time away gives you perspective and a chance to reevaluate what’s really important.

Here’s what I discovered on my trip to Cornwall…

Connection — has to be number one!
My first co-living experience was everything I was hoping for and more. Kind, non-judgemental people from all walks of life, simply living and working alongside each other. Going on adventures, cooking together, sharing skills, having deep conversations, laughing, and making new friendships. It reminded me just how much I thrive on genuine connection and community.

Nature — slow down and notice it.
Although I’m out every day with the dog, I don’t always slow down enough to really take it in. Cornwall reminded me how much being surrounded by nature feeds me — the trees, the sea, the wildness, the changing light. Sometimes you just need to stop and look.

Delicious, nourishing food — make the effort!
I’d got into the habit at home of not really cooking for myself. It’s just me, why bother? But actually… why not? Cooking, eating well and taking the time to nourish myself felt so good. I want to bring that home with me.

Slow time — I need more of it.
Not filling every moment. Not constantly rushing on to the next thing. Having space to read, walk, think, be, and simply see where the day takes me.

Less social media — more real life.
I noticed how much better I felt when I wasn’t constantly checking my phone or thinking about what was happening online. There is so much life happening right in front of us.

And perhaps the biggest realisation of all…

I don’t think I need to completely reinvent my life. I just need to pay more attention to what makes me feel alive, connected and nourished — and make more space for those things.

So that’s my challenge to myself as I come home:
bring a little more Cornwall home with me 💚

If I could give my self from a year ago one piece of advice, it would be this:

The darkness will feel all-consuming. There will be moments when you truly believe the light will never return.

But trust that somewhere within you, there is a strength and a light that continues to shine — even when you can’t see it.

A little like a solar eclipse! 🌑✨

The sun hasn’t disappeared. The light is still there, even when it’s temporarily hidden from view.

A year ago, I never thought I would be able to enjoy life again. I couldn’t imagine feeling lightness, laughter or joy without the person I had lost.

And yet, slowly, almost imperceptibly at first, the light began to find its way back in.

Not because I stopped grieving. Not because I stopped missing him.

But because I began to discover that grief and joy can exist side by side. That love doesn’t end when someone dies. And that life can slowly begin to feel beautiful again, even alongside the ache of missing someone so deeply.

If you’re in the darkness right now, please don’t believe it will always feel this way.

You don’t have to find the light today either. Just trust that it’s still there. 🤍
