Last week St Albans CC hosted our 2nd annual cricket week.
We hosted a game of cricket every day this week with the first 2 games being against JPC Partners and SFDWP in a very friendly atmosphere. Both games were well managed and St Albans ended out with one win from the first 2 days, falling just short in the other.
Wednesday bought the showpiece game of the week vs MCC, the first time the club have had the pleasure of hosting the historic club. The MCC side batted well with runs from Joe and Tommy Burslem and also Joe Hawkins. The declaration from SACC’s own Oli Coulman came with the score on 250-5 after 47 overs.
St Albans set out to chase against MCC’s very handy bowling attack with George Garrett claiming an early wicket and Normandy CC opening bowler Dylan Hurst causing many problems. However there were then handy contributions from the returning George Sims (37), Ben Cawood (39) and Zach West (34). This was supporting an excellent knock of 84* from man of the match Priyesh Patel who steered the team very closely towards the total and with a couple of overs to go the target was very much in sight. Sadly a solid last over from SACC 1XI Captain Dan Baylis meant we ended up 243-5 off 44 overs, 7 runs short off 3 less overs. The match ended in a draw and all round a fantastic day for the club.
Thursday and Friday saw 2 more T20 friendly matches against Garden Fields and St Albans Hockey Club respectively, Saints coming out the wrong side of both.
On Friday during the day we also hosted a junior tournament at Clarence Park, with roughly 75 kids in participation from our U8-11s section across boys and girls. For some this was their first steps into competitive cricket and the U8s in particular held themselves very well in these circumstances.
All in all, this was another very successful week for the club with some fantastic cricket on show. Special thank you to Rory Law, Matt Howeson, Tim Winfield and Oliver Coulman for organising fixtures and to Jacob Winfield who was instrumental behind the scenes on Wednesday.
