An immense amount of pride tinged with disappointment as we complete our division 3 fixtures in our first season as a new club. With only 12 league games scheduled, we were unable to overhaul a good Bushey & Oxhey Falcons team despite a strong finish. So many positives though as we plan for next season.
Unbeaten in the league since October, we approached the last four games knowing that the title was there for the taking if we could win them all. Unfortunately some quite unbelievable officiating in one of our away fixtures meant that we were denied the opportunity and were only able to come away with a draw from that game.
With the top teams still to face, we needed to make sure that we finished strongly, and we did! The highlight has to be our 3-4 victory away to Bushey & Oxhey Falcons. Having lost 0-1 at home earlier in the season to an unfortunate late goal, we had a point to prove. We conceded a goal to a needless penalty, hit the post with our penalty and found ourselves 3-1 down within a minute of the start of the second half. 3 superb goals later and we had gained our revenge. Once again, the boys had demonstrated their togetherness and determination to fight back after an initial setback. That they managed to do so while sticking to their passing principles was particularly pleasing to see as a manager.
Hats off to Bushey & Oxhey Falcons. They were consistent throughout the season and deserved their title. For us, after an encouraging debut season, the only way is up!
