Well, this is rather exciting…

Joanna M Wellness has been chosen as one of The Nation’s Favourite 100 Small Businesses!

And I’m genuinely a little bit chuffed. 💛

When you run a small business, so much of what you do happens behind the scenes.

The ideas, the learning, the late nights, the things that don’t work, the starting again… and the constant belief that what you’re creating can make a difference to someone.

What started with my own experience of perimenopause has grown into a business that allows me to help other women understand what’s happening in their bodies, feel stronger, have more energy and get back to enjoying their lives.

So to have Joanna M Wellness recognised as one of 100 small businesses from across the country feels pretty special.

Thank you to every woman who has trusted me, worked with me, come to a class, joined my community, shared a post or recommended me to a friend.

You’re a huge part of why I get to do what I do. 💛

When “What’s for dinner?” is enough to tip you over the edge.

It's not really about dinner.

It's that you genuinely don't think you can cope with one more person asking you for one more thing.

One more question.
One more decision.
One more “Mum, have you…?”
One more thing that's somehow yours to sort out.

Because by 5pm, you're done.

And this is the bit about perimenopause exhaustion we don't talk about enough.

It isn't just feeling tired.

It's having so little left at the end of the day that you start saying no to the things you actually want to do.

The walk. Dinner with friends. Going out with your partner.

And slowly, exhaustion starts affecting how much of your life you actually get to enjoy.

The irony of talking about getting your energy back while completely exhausting myself before 7am isn't lost on me 😂

But today was such a good reminder that we don't always notice just how much we're asking of ourselves.

The early mornings.
The broken sleep.
The running around after everyone else.
The mental load.
The never-ending list of things that “just need doing.”

We just get on with it.

And in perimenopause, when your body is already dealing with crazy hormones and all the changes that come with them, that load can start to feel very different.

Which is why getting your energy back isn't necessarily about trying harder or adding another thing to your list.

Sometimes the first step is understanding why you're so exhausted in the first place.

▫️Mentally reorganising your entire life
▫️Getting up for a wee
▫️Lying there getting increasingly annoyed

Magnesium for sleep.

B vitamins for energy.

Something for the hot flushes.

Something else for the anxiety.

Before you know it, you've got a cupboard full of supplements...

and you're still exhausted.

I'm not saying supplements don't have a place. They do.

But here's where I think we're getting it wrong.

We keep trying to fix each symptom as though it's a separate problem.

Can't sleep? Take this.

No energy? Try that.

Feeling anxious? Add something else.

But the problem is that we're trying to fix them one by one.

You can't solve a whole-body problem one symptom at a time.

So instead of asking "What else can I take?"

Ask "What's actually going on underneath all these symptoms?"

I am menopause obsessed but actually the comparison feels pretty spot on.

When a body you've known for 40+ years suddenly stops making sense, of course you start looking for answers.

The question is whether we're looking in the right place.

After 40 years, it's safe to say you've spent a lot of quality time with your own body.

You know how it responds.

You know what happens when you don't get enough sleep.

You know what works if you want to lose a few pounds.

You know which exercise makes you feel good.

So it's no wonder perimenopause feels so bloody confusing when suddenly... none of those things seem to work anymore.

Perimenopause totally changes the rules!

And instead of desperately clinging on to the old rulebook it's time to learn the new one.
