The uncomfortable truth about weight-loss injections in peri & post menopause…

They can work.
They reduce appetite.
They improve blood sugar control.
They lead to weight loss.
That’s not up for debate.

But here’s what rarely gets said out loud.

In peri and post menopause, you’re already at risk of losing muscle and bone because oestrogen is declining.
So when weight drops quickly and strength training isn’t prioritised.

A proportion of that loss can be lean mass.
Less muscle = lower metabolic rate.
Less loading = less stimulus for bone.
Less fuel = poorer recovery.

That’s physiology. Not opinion.
And if appetite is heavily suppressed without guidance?
Protein drops.
Energy intake drops.
Micronutrients drop.
Training quality drops.

Then women tell us:
“I feel lighter… but flatter.”
“I’m smaller… but weaker.”
“I’ve lost weight… but I’m exhausted.”
“I’ve still got excess skin, will that go eventually?”

That’s the part nobody markets.

And here’s the bigger question:
If the injection stops tomorrow… what’s left?

Because the research is clear, when medication stops, weight regain is common if habits haven’t changed.

An injection can suppress hunger.
It cannot build:
• Muscle
• Bone density
• Pelvic floor strength
• Nervous system resilience
• Sustainable eating behaviours

And it definitely doesn’t restore declining oestrogen.

This isn’t anti-medication.
It’s anti-blind-use.

For a small percentage of women with serious metabolic disease, under proper medical supervision, these drugs may be appropriate.

But for many women in peri and post menopause chasing “stress belly” or scale weight?

The root drivers are often:
• Hormone shifts
• Chronic stress
• Poor sleep
• Under-recovery
• Years of inconsistent fuelling

No injection fixes those.
If anything, without strength and structure, you risk becoming smaller… but more fragile.

And at 45, 50, 55, fragility is the real threat.

So… what is the CrossFit Open?

The CrossFit Open is a worldwide fitness event that runs over 3 weeks.
Each week, one workout is released. That’s it.
You come into the gym, do the workout once, log your score, and carry on with your life.
No qualifiers.
No pressure.
No need to be “fit enough”.
It’s simply the same workout, done by thousands of people across the world, all at the same time — from beginners to elite athletes.

Why should you get involved?
Honestly?
Because this is where the Bearwalden community really comes alive.
The Open isn’t about winning. It’s about:
Training alongside people you don’t usually train with
Cheering each other on
Doing something slightly uncomfortable… together
Realising you’re capable of more than you thought
For a lot of members, the Open becomes:
The first pull-up they ever hit
The first workout they didn’t quit
The first time they felt properly part of the gym
This is shared experience.
And shared experience builds real community.

“But I’m not RX…”
Good. Most people aren’t — and that’s exactly the point.
Every Open workout comes with clear options:
RX – as written
Scaled – lighter loads, simpler skills
Often foundations options too
Everyone is doing the same workout, just at the right level for them.
No ego.
No judgement.
Just smart training.
How does judging work?
You’re never on your own.
One member works
One member judges
Coaches are right there supervising
We brief standards clearly beforehand
Judging isn’t about catching people out.
It’s about:
Keeping each other safe
Holding fair standards
Supporting your mate through the tough bits
Most people end up saying judging was their favourite part.
And the best bit? Unless you had

Then it’s straight into synchro snatches, switch machines, and finish with goblet squats that expose who’s really been training x 3

No hiding.

Magness Farm specialise in producing and sourcing high-quality, responsibly raised meats. Meet Isabelle!

After speaking with luke from we had to get involved and help this amazingly brave 11 year old girl who is currently battling a rare form of bone cancer called Osteosarcoma.

She has endured months of chemo and surgery and facing the loss of her leg.

We are trying to raise both money and awareness, as well as showing Isabelle and her family that we are all supporting her through her recovery!

MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH EVENING // THIS FRIDAY

We talk about lifting weights… but not enough about the weight that sits on our shoulders.

This Friday night we’re bringing the lads together for something that matters — an honest chat about men’s mental health with myself and , followed by a workout, pizza, and a beer.

Because sometimes the best therapy is moving, talking, and realising you’re not on your own.
