Got to give a well deserved shout out to my client Mandy this week. She has been so committed and consistent with her training for the last 6 months with me now, as well following a meal plan for the last few months and man does it show 🔥

We started with a goal in mind of being able to climb every flight of stairs where she works without needing to stop and feeling really out of breath, so we went from there and have been working on improving her cardiovascular fitness.

Like a lot of other people do, she panicked when her heart rate got high and she’s now got to a point where she no longer panics, which is such a breakthrough and it’s only going to help her even more when it comes to her training now.

She made some notes this week on her stair climb at work and wow it is just no bother for her at all anymore. She gets to the top with haste, she’s not out of breath, her heart rate isn’t high, plus she carries 9kg up them. These stairs are horrible by the way, people half her age are taking the lift up.

I am so impressed with you and what you have achieved so far in your fitness journey Mandy, keep at it. You are doing so incredibly well and everyone can see it 🌟

I find it so rewarding when I can get my clients to shift their mindset from just training to burn calories and build muscle to focusing on what their body is capable of, setting performance goals and learning new skills. I love seeing them enjoy training focused on achieving optimal health, performance, longevity and pain free movement and stepping away from training focused on achieving aesthetic results.

This is my client Zuzie performing lifted heel squats in her session last night. Love how keen she is to try out different things with her fitness and seeing how well rounded her fitness is 🔥

We put in some mobility work together first to create change to the tissue and movement quality of the joints. This provides more range of movement and better ability to get into ankle dorsiflexion. After this, we looked at strengthening through this new extra range of movement that was available to her and finished the session with these lifted heel squats.

Your muscles work harder by going to full depth. Time under tension is increased, more muscle fibers are recruited to take the load and with this extra tension in your muscles, you can generate a lot more power to drive out of the base of your squats.

Absolutely awesome work focusing on the quality of your movement patterns and technique yesterday Zuzie! Really positive steps to building an even better foundation to be able to really develop your strength 💪🏻

4 weeks in with my client Laura and she pulled a backbend out of the bag last night 🤩👏🏼 Love it! We’ve recently worked on hip, spinal and shoulder mobility as well as upper body strength. By the end of yesterday’s session and from what I’d seen, I felt Laura was ready to try a backbend and she went for it! 💪🏻

I get so excited whenever I see someone being able to do something new for the first time because I love that feeling so much myself and I know that they’re feeling that same thing in that moment. I love that Laura goes through sessions we have done together on her own again in between sessions and the extra work she’s putting in really shows. Keep up the good work Laura 🌟

My clients have been absolutely annihilating their academic and fitness goals this week and have impressed the hell out of me! 🤩

✨Sasha continues to astound me and performed her first ever Cossack Squats
👏🏼Mandy climbed up 459 steps (and back down again!) and has been bettering her cardiovascular fitness week on week
🔥Mya’s Highest Common Factor and Lowest Common Multiple homework was faultless
🏃🏻‍♀️Laura took positive steps in improving her ankle mobility, strength and stability to help better her running performance
🔡Flynn made solving quadratic equations look easy
⚽️Jonah smashed his first power training session to help improve his football play
🔢Oliver’s skills with operations with fractions was outstanding
❤️‍🔥My pocket rocket Zuzie was such an athlete on the gym floor this week and her double jack pushups were insane!
🙌🏻 Jake can now expand brackets and factorise effortlessly and the pride and care he takes in showing his working out is superb

I really loved being able to help Nancy get her confidence back and see her being able to move well again to be able to get back into doing the things she enjoys doing. I was training her last night, seeing her do plank jacks, mountain climbers and all sorts. This lady is a real inspiration 💪🏻🌟

Is your ability to create ankle dorsiflexion limiting your squat range? 🏋🏼‍♂️

Ankle dorsiflexion is where the angle between the top of the foot and the shin decreases. Your ability to create this dorsiflexion is often limited by how much range of motion you have in your calves and your ankle joint mobility. This is my client Heidi who is looking to improve her squat depth and so this week this is what we focused on.

Here in these photos, we are testing how far she can take her foot away from the wall and still touch the wall with her knee. After putting in some mobility work together, we can see she has made a change to the tissue and movement quality of the joints. There is extra distance between her toes and the wall meaning she has more range of movement and better ability to get into ankle dorsiflexion. Seeing positive changes like this gets me so excited for my clients 🙌🏻 After this, we then looked at squatting through this new extra range of movement that was available to her.

If you’re looking to work on your mobility to help you improve any particular movements or exercises, I do still have a few time slots available so get in touch. I offer long 45min-1hr sessions as well as shorter 20-30 minute sessions that you could do before or after other workouts you have planned.

Mad difference between the start and end of yesterday’s session 🤩

This is my wonderful client Heidi. Heidi has already been training for years, but wanted to start incorporating some sessions amongst her training to improve her movement and mobility. She has been training with me for the last few weeks and yesterday we focused on her upper body mobility. We focused on mobilising the joints, creating more range of movement in the tissue and opening it up to get some extensibility.

One of her goals is to improve her Downward Facing Dog and it was amazing to see just how much better of a position she was able to get her upper body into by the end of the session. You took some really positive steps yesterday in helping increase your overhead range of movement Heidi, well done 🌟
