Woodlands Table Tennis Club

Woodlands Table Tennis Club Woodlands Table Tennis Club is now 20 years old having formed in Sept 2005 and we are affiliated to the Worthing District Table Tennis League.

The club founder was Barbara Bayford. Woodlands Table Tennis Club is now in its 17th year! Our club night is currently just Tuesday all year and we have our Pay & Play session from 5.30pm to 7pm which is for the general public. These are our Social members. From 7.30pm to when we finish we have our league matches against other clubs. In the Summer months we are open from 5.30pm till around 9.30pm

– 10pm for general play of all standards. We are affiliated to the Worthing & District Table Tennis League & we enter11 teams of all standards each season, possibly more this season. There are 4/5 players to a team & from those 3 will be chosen to play in rotation one night of the week. We also have club tournaments during the summer for league players and social members.

On Tuesday it was the Social Drawn Doubles competition which saw 22(ish) social members engage a a wonderful evening of good spirit and enthusiasm for TT.
There were 4 groups with the winners of each group going into a Champions League.
There were also Europa League , Conference and Southern League groups that followed depending on the position of each pair in the original group. ( I hope you are still with me!!!! )
The victors of the night were Nick Durber and John Haggis who won all 3 of their matches.
Jan Foster and Les Eadie were runners up with these four battling out their unbeaten records in the last game of the night .
Once again huge thanks to those people who made it happen .

Last week Woodlands held their annual social members handicap singles competition. 20 members battled hard with the winners of the four groups playing a semi final . Semi final 1 was Stasha v John Haggis with John overcoming Stasha in a fight to the end.
In the second semi it was Mr And Mrs Thomas who were praying for marital harmony. Mr Thomas didn’t read the script properly and beat Mrs Thomas.
The final was set up with a huge crowd in to watch a very good game of TT. George Thomas was victorious beating John. A brilliant night of TT enjoyed by all, huge thanks to those that made it happen.

Last night saw Pingsters Table Tennis Club entertain Woody D and the Woody team containing David Mac, Pam and Jim Wheatley. They won 7-3 in their Division 4 game whilst an unrecognisable Woody D team lost 7-3 in Division 1. Simon Long was on fire for Woody D winning 2 of his games . It is with heavy hearts that we advise you that David Buckmore passed away on Monday 22nd December.
Better known to some of you as David Buckett, he joined the club soon after it was established at The Woodlands Centre. Initially joining as a social player, David also played in the Worthing League for a few seasons before settling for social play. The original suggestion for a tournament pairing league and social players together came from David and you will recall this event formed part of the club's 20th anniversary celebrations back in August and September this year.
Away from table tennis David was an accomplished musician playing drums for several local bands over the years. More recently he also played keyboards and began writing his own songs.
David changed his surname to Buckmore in 2018 upon his marriage to Linda, his long term partner.
David was the founder and a director of Littlehampton based Apollo Taxis, with the company having been established in May 2006. He would have celebrated his 71st birthday in February 2026.
We will circulate funeral details once they have been confirmed.
David will be missed by many of us at the club and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
