Remember those freezing winter nights with no central heating—just the coal fire?
You’d drag your chair right up to the hearth after a long day, knees almost touching the fender, letting the heat bake one side of you while the rest of the room stayed cold. The coals glowed orange, spat and settled, and that simple, fierce warmth was enough. The rest of the house could freeze; you had the fire, and that was everything.
