No Game Today!

No game this week for our lads unfortunately but we are back in action next weekend as we travel to the ABSA to face Abbot’s Bromley FC 🩵🏆⚽️

How we lined up today 🩵🏆

Today we travelled up the road to Cannock Park to face Roy’s boys, Winding Wheel.

A few changes today, with Stevo, Ashton and CJ all making their first league starts this season for the Chase. Wallie, Curt and Nath Walker were the three who made way. Great to have a decent squad this year, it will be vital as the season progresses.

Early exchanges saw both teams trying to play the game the right way. The Chase started well and went close, with Big Deebo forcing a save from the Wheel keeper, who had a really good game. A free kick whipped in by Liam O’Neil was headed towards goal by Deebo, but the keeper pushed it away.

Joe in the Chase goal wasn’t having much to do, but when called upon, he was up to the task.

Liam Franklin, Deebo, Stevo and Rio Robinson all kept Wheel at bay with some good defensive displays.

Going into half-time, there wasn’t much to separate the two teams. The final pass needed to be better if the Chase wanted anything from this game.

Second half, and the management team wanted more from the lads. To be fair, they pushed hard to get that all important first goal.

Nath Edwards, who worked tirelessly as always, was looking lively and was always a threat. Likewise, our captain Jamie Clarke was slowly coming into the game.

Sammy T had a quiet game by his standards but still worked ever so hard, running the channels and keeping the Wheel defence on their toes.

We introduced Dave Hill and Wallie on 60 minutes, with CJ and Ashton making way. Both got vital minutes and will be great signings for us this season.

Dave Hill instantly started picking up the ball, trying to probe and make things happen. Likewise, Wallie had a few so-called shots that ended up being as powerful as a grasshopper’s fart! 😂

We pushed Deebo up top for the last 10 minutes, and the lads were rewarded on 85 minutes. Our captain, Jamie Clarke, charged into the box and managed to get there before the defender. It was a soft one, but the referee pointed to the spot.

Up stepped our skipper, JC, to send the keeper the wrong way.

0-1

We made another change, with Rio Robinson making way for Rio Jones at left-back for the final few minutes. Rio nearly got on the end of a pass to put us 2-0 up, but once again, the Wheel keeper was quick off his line.

Moments later, there was another penalty shout for the Chase. Liam O’Neil looked to have knocked the ball past the Wheel defender, in what looked like a clear penalty, but the referee waved it away.

Wheel pressed for an equaliser, with Joey C in the Chase goal coming off his line to prevent The Wheel from grabbing a valuable point.

Credit to Roy’s boys, a very good game of football, and we wish them all the best for the season. But it’s the Chase who come away with the win, thanks to a JC penalty!

Man of the Match – Liam Franklin 🏆

Mr Versatile — a player who gives 100% wherever he is asked to play. Today, he was solid at full-back.

This Sunday we travel away to Cannock to take on newly promoted AFC Winding Wheel.

We’ve had some great games against Roy’s boys and we are sure this Sunday will live up to the expectations and will be a great battle on the pitch 🩵

Today, we welcomed Holmcroft to The Hart School, where the Chase lads were looking to bounce back from last week’s opening-day defeat.

Just one change to the side, with Curt Richards coming in for the injured Dan Conroy, who looks to be out for a few weeks with a broken foot.

The game started lively, with Holmcroft having the better of the exchanges, testing the Chase defence with some good play down both flanks.

The Chase were caught napping in the 30th minute when the Holmcroft winger showed quick feet up against Rio Robinson, who unfortunately tried to nip the ball away but caught the winger inside the box. Penalty to Holmcroft.

Dispatched into the top corner; Joe dived the right way but couldn’t keep it out.

The Chase just couldn’t get any rhythm going. Corrigan tried his best with some good feet and skill, but Holmcroft kept him at bay.

The Chase finally started to remember they were in a game of football, and with a series of throw-ins, they drew level, as Curt Richards' long throw, Big Debo got the flick-on, and our Captain, Jamie Clarke, stole in front of his marker to prod home from close range. The Holmcroft linesman raised his flag, which was waved away by the referee who had clear view, the goal stood. ⚽️

1-1 at Halftime.

What came next was something we as a club don’t condone in any way, shape, or form. Sadly, the referee was assaulted by the Holmcroft linesman in what can only be described as sickening, and it has no place in football. Rightly so, the game was abandoned because of one mindless thug.

A shame, really, as the game was shaping up to be a decent one going into the second half.

Our thoughts are with the ref. We hope this doesn’t happen again, because without refs, Sunday morning football doesn’t happen.

Next week, we travel to Cannock Stadium for our first away league fixture against AFC Winding Wheel.
