+++MONDAY 13th APRIL 2026+++

Chadderton League Division 3

Royton Cricket A v Royton Cricket B

The 1st Derby of the season was the B team’s 1st game of the season after their bye last week

Opening the match - Barrie Kitson v Stephen Astley

It was nip and tuck all the way through; Barrie was 8-7 up after 11 ends but 10-13 down 5 ends later. Barrie closed the gap to 14-15 at the 22nd end but Stephen eased away to record a 21-15 for the B team

Match nr2 - Ian Gorbutt v Alwyn Ashton

A contrast in styles but an enthralling game.

6 across after 9 ends; suddenly Ian shifted gears and cruised into a 16-10 lead after 21 ends

Alwyn closed the gap to 19-18 in favour of Ian but Gorby pinched a couple of singles at the next two ends to squeeze home 21-17

Match nr3 - Brad Smalley v John Patterson

Both players had the block for 3-4 ends but couldn’t pull away from each other.

It was 13 across after 21 ends and 17-16 to Brad 4 ends laters

The block changed hands at each of the last 5 ends before Brad snatched it 21-19

Match nr4 - Steve Ramsbottom v Stuart Milne

After 11 ends, it was all one way traffic as Stuart established a 12-4 lead

But the left hander eventually found his length to square things up at 15 across after 22 ends, Steve was on the cusp of victory 3 ends later at 19-15

But Stuart dug deep, grabbed the block, eradicated the deficit and ran out to record a 21-19 victory

Match nr5 - Graham Stanley v Peter Ashton

Yet another close affair; 6 across after 9 ends; 9 across after 15 ends; Peter took the lead once again at the next end and from 14-13 up, ran out to win 21-13

Mach nr6 - Denis Yates v Bob Price

Denis only held onto the block once during the course of the game and Bob had a fairly comfortable stroll to win 21-10

Match nr7 - Mike Hall v Shaun Blackwell

It was a struggle for the A team player as Hot Shot Blackwell stormed to a 14-4 lead after 12 ends; all Mike could do was a couple of singles before Shaun put the matter to bed to win the team kitty with a 21-6 victory

Mach nr8 - Keith Gledhill v Nigel Pollitt

The two old rockers faced off and Keith was closer to the heart of the jack as he rushed into an early 6-0 lead before Nigel showed a vital sign to get his 1st chalk. The B teamer was struggling with his length as Keith went 13-4 up after 15 ends. He often got something for nothing as Nigel’s freewill was awry in the limelight. Despite a pair and a single at the next two ends, it wasn’t going to be Nigel’s (fly by) night and Keith reached Xanadu with a working man’s final score of 21-8

Match nr9 - Zac Stott v Duane Walton

Zac was straight into action as he established a 14-1 lead after 10 ends; a brief spurt by Duane closed the gap to 6-15 five ends later before Zac sealed the win 21-6 to scoop the team’s kitty

Match nr10 - Phil Carr v Stephen Kelly

Phil was quick off the starting grid as he was 10-2 up after 9 ends. Stephen reduced the deficit to 6-10 before Phil kicked into gear and three consecutive pairs re-established his 10pt lead: Kelly got his eye in again but a run of 5 chalks at the final 4 ends saw Phil receive the chequered flag at 21-8

So 5 winners apiece but the A team sneaked the aggregate by just 4 chalks

Royton Cricket A 8pts (168) Royton Cricket B 7.5pts (164)

CHADDERTON LEAGUE DIVISION THREE

Chadderton CBC v Royton Cricket A

The Chadderton League got underway for our Monday Night A team with a trip down to Chadderton CBC and their “infamous” artificial turf green

Opening for Royton was the experienced Barrie Kitson and he was always in control against John Rudkin; the winning score of 21-11 showed how comfortable it was for Baz

Nr2 Ian Gorbutt had a right ding d**g with the wily Brian Raynor and at 18-15 up, Ian must have fancied his chances. But Brian dug deep and scraped home 21-19

Derek Kirkham was never at the races against Paul Rigney and the 21-5 scoreline told its own story

Debutante Steve Ramsbottom was in complete control against Glynn Hallas lying 18-6 and 19-8 up but then it all went a bit Pete Tong. Glynn found his length and closed the gap to 19-16 but Steve nicked one at the 27th end then another three ends later to squeeze home 21-19

The experienced Mike Hall cruised to a 21-12 victory over his Winter League colleague Terry Pickup while Denis Yates will be disappointed he couldn’t overcome Mike Rigby in a tight tussle that finished 21-19 to the homester

Our other debutante Brad Smalley was on a right rush as he stormed into a 14-0 lead over left hander Steve Smith. Steve reduced the deficit to 15-7 before Brad ran out to scoop the kitty with his 21-7 win

Captain Keith Gledhill was never under pressure against home captain Alan Jackson and the 21-8 victory was comfortable enough on a surface he’s at home with

Nr9 Phil Carr was in a rollercoaster ride against Disco Dave Roberts but after being 18-13 up, Disco danced his way to victory with a run of 8 unanswered chalks

Last up Zac Stott was always ahead of Alan Ratcliffe but from leading 14-13 after 21 ends, Zac inched his way to the win conceding only a pair at the 25th end to win 21-15

Final Score

Chadderton CBC 4 (156) Royton Cricket A 12 (187)
