PADDLING POOLS REMAIN CLOSED
Warwick District Council have just announced that the the paddling pools at Victoria Park and St Nicholas Park will not be open for the Spring Bank Holiday but will remain closed pending completion of the defect repair programme
No date is given yet for the eventual reopening

UPDATE ON MURDER INVESTIGATION
· As reported in local and national media, a body was recovered from River Leam on Wednesday morning
· We understand that:
o Warwickshire Police will be in the park this weekend carrying out further searches of the river near the skate park
o A cordon will be in place while this is ongoing, subject to weather conditions
o Community Wardens will be supporting, and police will also be carrying out reassurance patrols and speaking with local groups
o They have asked that, if anyone has information that could help, please report it online quoting incident 68 of 15 April

Today's Committee meeting takes place at the Town Hall between 5-7pm
We understand that the public can attend but there are no opportunities for visitors to speak

DOG LEADS ORDER FOR VICTORIA PARK!??
Today, Warwick District Council’s Licensing & Regulatory Committee is to discuss the possibility of extending a Dogs on Leads Order to Victoria Park largely because 13 respondents to a survey have suggested this!
The Friends are liaising with others to ensure that this inadequately thought-out action is at least delayed for proper consideration

PADDLING POOL – PAST & FUTURE
Warwick District Council have issued a provisional report on their paddling pool issues
Re last summer’s untimely closures, the report states “…(Council) officers may have underestimated the Technical Knowledge, support and oversight..required for a project of this kind”. Remedial actions are detailed
Re Next summer’s prospects ““Rectification works continue at both sites and the current expected completion dates are early summer 2026, although this is weather dependent”

PADDLING POOLS LATEST
Warwick District Council have issued the following statement about their paddling pools:
28 August 2025 update
The Council is not satisfied with the quality of the work that has been carried out so far. Once Victoria Park had opened and was being used, it quickly became apparent that there were technical issues to be addressed. Regrettably, the Council will not authorise reopening the paddling pools until all the rectification work has been completed and funded by the contractor over the next few weeks. Victoria park and St Nicholas park’s paddling pools will both open in 2026.

PADDLING POOL CLOSURE
In the last hour, we've received the following statement:
"It is with much sadness that Warwick District Council has made the difficult decision to close the paddling pool at Victoria Park, Leamington Spa with immediate effect.
This is due to a range of technical issues.
Currently we don’t expect the pool to reopen for the rest of the school summer holidays.
The Council understands the disappointment that this will cause especially given the fine weather and is working hard with the contractors to fix the issues.

On 18 September, there’s a by-election in Warwick District Council’s Clarendon Ward that includes Victoria Park.
For more than 6 years, Friends of Victoria Park have been asking the Council to enter into a Deed of Dedication with Fields-in-Trust which is the very best way of protecting the Park from unwelcome building and tarmacing.
Please take this opportunity to ask our local politicians and candidates:
WILL YOU/YOUR PARTY MAKE ALL REASONABLE EFFORTS TO ENSURE THAT WARWICK DISTRICT COUNCIL ENTERS INTO A DEED OF DEDICATION FOR VICTORIA PARK WITH FIELDS-IN-TRUST NO LATER THAN 2026?
