Midweek XI match report from their first ever win against Crofton Phoenix on Thursday! Many thanks to Irene Maleham who kindly sponsored the match ball for this fixture.

On a warm evening in Scholes, we won the toss and decided to have a bowl. Kai Brown (Barrhead Travel & AIM) opened up from the bottom end and struck with his fourth ball. He picked up another wicket during his 3 over spell (all in the powerplay), and went for just 14 runs. Replacing him at the bottom end was Oliver Lister (The Candy Van), after a shaky first over, Oli continued his fantastic form and notched up figures of 3/30 from 4 overs. Craig Moffat was reliable as always as he finished with 2/28 from his 4 overs at the top end, and produced a fantastic long range run out from mid-off later in the innings. Thorston Morkel also produced good figures from his 2.4 over spell (1/16). Paul Walker and Kiran Johnson had a couple of overs each and bowled well in parts, and both were unlucky not to take a wicket. The less said about Mark Newbould's over of 'spin' the better....

A good bowling display and consistency in the field meant we bowled our opponents out for 152 after 18.4 overs.

Although 152 looked like a decent total, this was made very light work of by Thorston and Mark (V-Recruit), as the pair saw us over the line after just 11.2 overs! T ended 73* from 41 balls including 4x4s and 6x6s, whereas Mark redeemed himself after his bowling display, posting 58* from just 28 balls, including 6x4s and 2x6s. A quite empathetic way to get our clubs first ever T20 win!

The midweek side are next in action on Thursday as they travel to league leaders Denby!

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Scholes & Harley struggled to build substantial partnerships throughout the innings.

Sam Lowery (Kinetic Clinics) and the rest of the middle order showed some resilience with 21 from 58 deliveries, while Jamie Oliver (Oliver Business Services) contributed 16 and Tom Wade (Jason Wade - Painter & Decorator) added a useful 15 from only 13 balls. However, disciplined bowling from the Whiston attack kept the scoring in check. Despite a positive start from Lewis Pursglove (C&J (UK) Consultants)whose quick-fire 30 from just 23 balls included several boundaries, wickets continued to fall regularly and prevented the hosts from establishing momentum. Scholes & Harley were all out for 133 in 37.5 overs.

Defending a modest total, Scholes & Harley needed early breakthroughs and found some encouragement by reducing the visitors to four wickets down during the chase. Jamie Oliver led the attack with 2 wickets, while Kai Brown (Barrhead Travel & AIM) and Oliver Lister (The Candy Van) each picked up one wicket.

However, Whiston Parish Church remained in control of the chase. The visitors put 80 on for their 4th wicket which we struggled to find an answer to.

The visitors reached 134 for 4 in 28 overs, securing victory by six wickets with plenty of time to spare.

Match Report vs Frecheville 2nds

On a windy day at the Hobson Bowl, the skipper won the toss and shockingly elected to field. Openers Matt Holmes (Handmade by Holmes) and James Sanaghan (Scholes Camera Club) bowled very well, creating numerous chances and multiple shouts for LBWs that were ultimately unsuccessful. They kept the opposition to 20 runs before the first change. First change saw Noah Walsh (Maisie Brennan - Sports Therapist) return to the side, while at the other end skipper Sam Ferris (Go Local Extra Hoyland) failed to claim a wicket with his first ball. However, he struck with the second ball, delivering a gr***de to Frecheville 1stsโ€™ ex-skipper, who claimed heโ€™d never seen anything like it. After another set of LBW shouts that were not given, the hosts reached 66-1 at drinks. James Sanaghan came back into the attack and thought he had the next breakthrough with a glorious catch by Jacob Sverdloff (available to sponsor), only for it to be called a no-ball. Cue skipper Fez throwing his toys out of the pram. Jimmy did get the breakthrough four overs later with the same ball and the same wonderful catch! He was then on a roll, taking another scalp with Thomas Wright (available to sponsor) taking his regulation slip catch of the week! Runs flowed until the 30th over, when Sam took another wicket, finishing his spell with figures of 2-35. Jimmy finished with 2-42. Holmes returned at the other end after his hip replacement and took two more wickets to finish his 10 overs with impressive figures of 2-18. The other two wickets were taken by Alex Bradshaw (David Cox Golf) and Jacob Sverdloff, adding more to their Saturday tally. The 40th over was tightly bowled by Jordan Bolland (HLM Architects) on his return to his old club, unfortunately without taking a wicket. Special shout-out to Matt Hague (Little Einsteins Nursery) behind the stumps for being the wall, as per usual!

After tea, Jordan Bolland and Sam Ferris took the crease. Yes, you read that right. Both looked very settled, playing some classy shots and the odd leave, until Sam was bowled for 19. Jordan stuck around and toiled away for a hard-fought 33 while facing some very hostile bowling on his return to his old club. Wickets tumbled at regular intervals, with no one else making use of the foundations that had been set. Only Matt Hague and Jimmy (20 not out) reached double figures as we were bowled out for 124, taking 2 points from the defeat.

Player of the Match - Hard to choose between Jordan Bolland and Jimmy Sanaghan, as both played extremely well. Everyone in the field was excellent today!

Wally of the Day - Skipper Fez for throwing the whole toy set out of the pram during the first innings. A dummy has since been found and returned.

We go again this week against Tickhill 3rds at home

Match Report - Sunday XI vs Bradfield Village

Our opponents won the toss and decided to bat first. Given the forecast for rain, a 30 over game was to be played.

10 minutes into the game, batting first seemed to be a bad decision. S&H's opening bowlers Oli (The Candy Van) (3 wickets) & James (Scholes Camera Club) (1 wicket) had the visitors 4 down for only 2 runs inside the first couple of overs.

Alex Bradshaw (David Cox Golf) replaced James and continued the good work, taking 2 wickets in his first over. Alex bowled 3 overs for 12 runs, taking his first two wickets in senior cricket.

Aidan Dunkley (available to sponsor) replaced Alex and found his line and length after his first over. Aidan took a further 2 wickets thanks to some great fielding by Sam & James.

At the other end, Sam Ferris (Go Local Extra - Hoyland West Street), bowled his usual bag of tricks and was unfortunate not to get a wicket. Sam bowled 6 overs for 30 runs. Captain, Callum Fielding (Barrhead Travel), bowled 3 overs for 14 runs.

Oli & James returned for the last 4 overs of the innings and continued as they left off. Oli managed a 4th wicket and was unfortunate not to get 5.

Bradfield scored 106/9 from their 30 overs.

In reply, our innings got off to a slow start due to some good bowling by the visitors openers. Both opening batsmen, Callum & Kai (Barrhead Travel & AIM) fell for one run.

Wickets fell at regular intervals throughout the innings, with Mark Newbould (V-Recruit) scoring 38 & Sam Lowery (Kinetic Clinics) 19*, the only two players to score double figures.

We finished our innings on 84 all out. Taking 4 points from the game.

This Sunday, the Sunday XI face Mexborough at home.

Couple more additions to the batting honours board with two explosive knocks!

Thorston Morkel showed his quality on his midweek side debut as he hit 59 from just 42 balls, including 4x4s and 4x6s. Many thanks Moff for getting him involved with the midweek setup, and hopefully we see more of the same against Worsbrough next week.

Last Saturday the 1s made it back-to-back wins and a huge part of that was Mark Newbould's 76* off 58 balls including 7x4s and 4x6s. When Mark came in we were struggling at 56/5 in the 22nd over. Mark stabilised our innings and helped us post a competitive total of 176 which helped us edge past our opponents with a 7 run win!
