We are always looking to support community engagement and outreach and this would be a fantastic opportunity to come into the Rawmarsh area and Rotherham as a whole πΎ ππ»
Are you interested in the sport of padel? If so we have some exciting news for you!
Upper Haugh Cricket Club has recently submitted a planning application to Rotherham Council to install 3 padel courts on our Wentworth Road (S62 7SL) ground. It is hoped the courts will be fully operational by late Summer 2026.
Please let us know below if you would like more information or might be interested in joining us - La padelistas!
Just as some background the Club was founded in 1855 and since that time it has been a key part of the local communities of Upper Haugh and Rawmarsh. We have built to a position where we have 5 senior teams, a women and girls team, and 70+ junior players (aged 5-18).
However, despite success on the pitch the club struggles to make ends meet. We are a self-funding club experiencing spiralling costs and to avoid the ill-fate of many other cricket clubs must develop new sources of income.
Padel is growing in popularity with people of all ages and abilities and it is hoped the new courts will significantly increase our visitor numbers - all year round - bringing a new lease of life to the club. They will also represent a valuable resource for the Rawmarsh community.
Aware of the benefits for the club and community local councillors (Rawmarsh East and West wards) have provided their backing for the proposal. It advances Council plans for supporting healthier communities and making improved use of green spaces. The Council's Playing Pitch Strategy specifically references Council ambitions to support the sustainability and development of local cricket clubs and correct Rotherham's shortfall in padel courts (estimated at 21 courts).
Wentworth Estates, Yorkshire Cricket Board, Yorkshire Sport and the Lawn Tennis Association have also provided written statements of support for our application.
As such the club is confident the Council will give a green light to the proposal.
