We aren't currently offering overseas expeditions. If thats what you're looking for then please check out these guys - one of the best outfits around, apart from ourselves of course 😉

The Everest Base Camp trek is high-altitude trekking at its best. Centuries old trails lead through spectacular scenery and ancient villages to the highest mountain in the world.

Clear out your garage and help Ukraine?

Please see the message below from DMM and help where you can?

As the humanitarian crisis from the war in Ukraine grows, DMM are working with partners in Poland, to deliver urgently needed specialist supplies for refugees. We would like to ask for your donations of clean, useable, good quality and functional kit:

Sleeping Bags
Sleeping Mats
Bivi Bags and Survival Blankets
First Aid Kits
Head Torches
Warm Socks
Warm Gloves
Pre-Packed Camping Food/Ration Packs
We’ve been asked not to ship clothing at present as there is already a surplus, so we won’t be able to accept clothing donations.

We’ll be accepting kit donations at our Llanberis DMM base this weekend:

Saturday 5th March 09:00 till 16:00
Sunday 6th March 09:00 till 16:00
Map pin of DMM location
At the DMM drop off point we will also be holding a factory seconds sale with the support of V12 Outdoors and Joe Browns to raise cash donations. Please pay what you can, and every last penny will go to the British Red Cross as part of the DEC efforts.

If you can't make it to Llanberis you can drop off your donations at DMM retailers across the UK this weekend (5th-6th March 2022) and we'll sort the delivery to DMM, and then onwards to our friends in Poland who are working with the local humanitarian organisations at the border. You can find a list of the donation drop off points here:

List of donation points
We will add to the list of donation points as they come in.

Massive thanks

DMM

Feet first: Progress up a route is almost always driven by the big muscles of the legs, whilst the arms direct and balance; the muscles of our core, that is chest, tummy, back and bum, keep us in position. That doesn't mean we always move in a left right manner like climbing a ladder however. In these examples, the heel is pulling towards the opposite foot, to keep it pinned on the poor hold so it can drive upwards. In the second photo the handholds are further away and the climber is using his toes to assist his core and to keep the lower foot from slipping/swinging off the hold.

Climbing on steep ground requires the mastery of a range of techniques to make the most of the available holds and friction.

The 'drop knee' creates tension between two opposing holds and keeps the climber close to the wall, as much weight as possible on their feet, and makes the most of their reach.

It is set up by rotating one hip towards the rock as the corresponding knee is turned downward.

The drop knee is also really useful if you haven't got a calf muscle and can't stand on tip toes! Here Barry Whale tackles a V3 problem in the , drop knee-ing with aplomb!

FREE TRAVEL AND CHALK

Did you know that Herefordshire is currently offering free bus travel at weekends? This is a great opportunity for us all to cut down our environmental impact and perhaps explore some new areas.

The 34 bus from Hereford picks up all the way down to Ross on Wye and to Whitchurch, five minutes walk from the Doward and the fantastic 'pudding stone' bouldering or a stroll to the excellent steep limestone walls of Bailey's Quarry.

Traveling by bus? Send us a picture with your gear and we'll send the first three people a chalk ball.

A great opportunity for somebody looking to develop their own practice. Paul is a well renowned climbing coach and author of several books on the subject; this is his last RCDI of the year.

ALL SORTED NOW, Thank you.

Do you wish to be coached at both sport and trad climbing for free? Are you available on Tuesday 19th AND Wednesday 20th October in the Peak District? If so I have a great opportunity for you.

I need 4 climbers who want to be coached at sport and trad climbing.
* You need to have led indoors
* Been climbing for over 6 months minimum
* Have lead belayed recently.
* Be available on Tuesday 19th 12pm till 5pm and all day Wednesday 20th October.

I am running my final Mountain Training Rock Climbing Development Instructor Assessment of the year and I need some real people for the candidates to coach. The assessment candidates have already been assessed as Rock Climbing Instructors and are taking the next steps in their development.

Things you could learn include:
Movement coaching
Route reading
How to equip and strip a sport climb safely
Retreating from routes
Placing trad gear
Building belays
Potentially trad leading depending on experience.

Spaces are tight though so if you want to get involved please get in touch with, letting me know your climbing history so far.

Association of Mountaineering Instructors.

Well thats been one heck of a year, but we've still managed more than our share of sends and adventures and have been humbled by the restraint of the outdoor community in staying away from the hills and crags when requested by the BMC and others.

Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and a 3D 2021.
