MonRoss-Trailblazers Running Club A welcoming running club for both social and competitive runners in and around Ross on Wye and Monmouth Interested?

We started when a bunch of us met up at circuit training (Mike Bennett's classes) held at Monmouth Leisure Centre on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights at 7pm. Realising that we were all running alone, we decided to band together and form a very informal club. Running under the Trail Blazer's banner, we'll be running in events in South Wales, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and even over the river

in Avon. We try to get out for an organised run on Saturday or Sunday morning, and maintain core fitness in circuit training. Club members run everything from 10k races to marathons, though mostly 10k to half marathon. We welcome new members, and we only pay £30 a year subscription to secure our membership of the Association of Running Clubs. Drop an email to us on [email protected]

🌙 Midnight Sun Marathon magic in Tromsø 🌙

Huge congratulations to club member Elle Lumley, who travelled to Tromsø, Norway at the weekend to take on the Midnight Sun Marathon – and came away with a marathon PB and 2nd place in her age category 👏💚

Starting at 8.30pm and racing late into the Arctic evening, she took on one of the most iconic marathons around, with an incredible backdrop of harbour, mountains and fjords. Not a bad place to run 26.2 miles!

A brilliant achievement, a brilliant adventure, and another MonRoss vest flying the flag in a very cool corner of the world.

Huge congratulations to Gavin Jones, who took on the Midsummer Mortimer Trail Kington Ultra on Saturday, finishing 12th overall in a brilliant time of 6:20:48. 🔥

Using the race as part of his build-up to the Merthyr Mawr Rabbit Run Ultra in four weeks’ time, Gavin put in a strong run over the Mortimer trails as he continues his preparations for another big challenge this summer. 💚

Even better, Gavin is running the Rabbit Run in support of Hope Rescue, a wonderful charity that rescues vulnerable dogs. A fantastic effort for a great cause. 🐶🐾

🌿 Hereford and Borders Summer XC Race 2 – Shobdon 🌿

A beautiful evening for racing at Shobdon, with a fast, undulating course that offered a bit of everything – flat tarmac and gravel sections, open fields, short sharp climbs, fast descents and plenty of opportunities to work hard!

MonRoss Trailblazers were out in force once again, with 19 runners representing the club across the field. We also fielded two scoring teams on the night, finishing 5th and 9th overall in a strong field of clubs from across the region.

Leading the way for MonRoss were Rob Nicholls and Gavin Jones with top-12 overall finishes, closely followed by Grant White and Jake McBride, all finishing comfortably inside the top 20.

There were strong runs throughout the men’s team from Tom Walmsley, Rob Potter, Andrew Stephens, Martin Turner, Matthew Webb, Tom Gore and Adam Teague, while our women were led home by Megan Gore, followed by Rachael Aitken, Kate Shuttlewood, Vanessa Ward, Rosie Davies, Trina Sami, Emma Humphries and Helena Reay.

Well done to everyone who raced and represented the club. A big thank you to the organisers, marshals and volunteers at Croft Ambrey Running Club for putting on another fantastic evening of cross-country racing.

A huge congratulations to Andrew Wright, who yesterday completed the Windermere Marathon in an impressive time of 3:58:47!

Not only did he break the 4-hour barrier, but he also finished 10th in his age category, a fantastic achievement on a challenging course.

A huge well done to our MonRoss runners who took on the mighty Man v Horse race this weekend!
🏃‍♂️ Jake McBride tackled the individual event and delivered an outstanding performance, covering over 22 miles in an impressive 4:11:24, finishing 114th in his gender category.
🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ “Rach’s Team” – Rachael Aitken, Alice Gray and Grant White – put in a fantastic effort in the mixed team relay, recording a cumulative time of 3:36:17. They finished 70th overall and 3rd in their category.
🏃‍♀️ Vanessa Ward raced as part of the team “Wicked for Good”, helping her team achieve a cumulative time of 4:06:08 and a 175th-place overall finish.
What a brilliant showing from everyone involved. Taking on the challenge of Man v Horse is no small feat, and we’re incredibly proud of you all. Congratulations and well done! 💚

This weekend Kieron Brown headed to the stunning Dolomites in Italy to take on a seriously tough challenge – the Dolomiti Extreme Trail!
Covering an incredible 55km with a staggering 3,600m of elevation, Kieron crossed the finish line in an outstanding time of 8:57:04, securing 35th place in his gender category.

Another fantastic parkrun weekend and a brilliant turnout from our MonRoss runners!
A total of 59 runners represented the club across a range of parkruns, including Ross-on-Wye parkrun Chippenham Playing Fields parkrun, Monmouth Severn Bridge parkrun

Whether you were chasing a PB, enjoying a social run, or simply getting those Saturday morning miles done, well done to everyone who took part. Great running all round!

Last night saw the final race of the Hereford 5K Series, and what a fantastic turnout from MonRoss Trailblazers! There were some outstanding performances throughout the series, with our runners achieving some brilliant results across the board.

Overall Series Results

🏅 Keiron Brown finished 3rd overall in the Senior Male (SM) category, following an impressive 18:01 run last night, giving him a combined series time of 53:42.

🏅 Tom Walmsley secured 2nd overall in the VM35 category with a total series time of 54:36.

🏅 Nicholas Cook took 3rd overall in the VM40 category, completing the series in 56:28.

🏅 Andrew Wright claimed 2nd place in the VM55 category with a total time of 1:04.

The women also put in some fantastic performances:

🏅 Jess Rainey finished 2nd overall in the Senior Female category with a combined time of 1:07:21.

🏅 Emma Davies had an excellent series, taking 1st place in the VF50 category with a total time of 1:11:53.

A huge congratulations to everyone who took part in all three races over the past eight weeks. Your commitment, determination and hard work have been fantastic to see, and the club should be incredibly proud of these achievements.

A special mention also goes to those who joined us for Race 3 last night and still delivered some superb performances:

🏅 Grant White finished 1st in the VM35 category with a fantastic time of 18:40.

🏅 Andrew Stephens took 3rd place in the VM category, crossing the line in 21:10.

🏅 Andrew Wright secured 2nd place in the VM55 category with a time of 21:40.

🏅 Rachael Aitken finished 2nd in the VF35 category with an impressive 21:53.

🏅 Emma Davies claimed 2nd place in the VF50 category with a time of 22:47.

Fantastic running from everyone involved and a brilliant way to round off another successful Hereford 5K Series. It’s been great to see so many MonRoss runners out there supporting one another and representing the club so well.
