📣U11S TOURNAMENT REPORT📣

Weston U11 Reds and Weston U11 Yellows took part in a highly competitive tournament at Ledbury this morning, representing the club with great spirit, determination and teamwork throughout.

The Yellows faced a tough group and battled hard in every game. A win and a draw saw them finish 4th in their group, narrowly missing out on a place in the knockout stages. Despite the disappointment, there were plenty of positives to take from their performances and the effort shown by every player.

The Reds were in outstanding form throughout the group stage, topping their group after scoring an incredible 13 goals and conceding none. Playing with confidence, energy and quality, they produced some excellent football and fully deserved their place in the semi-finals.

The semi-final saw another dominant Weston performance. The Reds controlled much of the game and created numerous chances but couldn’t find the goal their play deserved. With the scores level at full time, the match went to the dreaded penalty shootout. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be, with Ledbury edging through to the final.

It was a heartbreaking way to exit the tournament on a day when Weston played some fantastic football and deserved much more for their efforts.

There is so much to be proud of from both teams. The progress, confidence and quality on display continue to grow with every tournament, and the future looks incredibly bright for this amazing group of players.

📣U13S TOURNAMENT REPORT📣

Weston Youth U13 travelled to the Ledbury tournament this morning with a squad of Jack B (gk), George, Ted, Harry, Thomas, Jamie, Alfie, Conor and Jacob CB.

With a tough looking group the team knew they would have to give everything.
A difficult opening 4 games saw 4 points on the board with the boys needing to win their remaining 3 to make the semi finals.

Performances went up a level and 3 wins on the spin of 1-0, 5-0 and 3-0 saw Weston set up a semi final against group winners Newton Sports.
A physical battle ensued but Weston edged ahead as Alfie slotted home and from then on some superb defending and a couple of top class saves from Jack B saw Weston march into the final to face Ledbury Athletics.

A cagey affair saw both teams create chances but no breakthrough arrived so it was on to the dreaded penalty shootout.
With it tied at 4-4, Jack B made a crucial save, only for a retake to be awarded and Ledbury going on the win 5-4.
An incredibly cruel way for the boys to lose.

However it was a fantastic achievement to get to the final with Coaches Minty and Paul and all the parents really proud of every single player today not only with the way they played throughout but also their conduct in such disappointment.

📣U8S TOURNAMENT REPORT📣
Weston U8s headed to their second tournament in a tough group at Ledbury FC.
The team of Max, Josh, Hugo, Sam, Lewis, Tommy, Ben and a final run out for Markas!
Slow to start, going 1-0 down early in their first match v Wessington kicked them in to action, managing to pull back with two long range efforts from Josh and Sam for a 2-1 win.
A close game v Hucclecote was played, very evenly matched, but Sam was able to get a great crossed finish from Ben for a 1-0 win.
Next up were Ledbury, a team Weston have played some very close games against and this one was no different. Sam popped up with the decisive finish again for the points, 1-0.

Fourth game v Worcester City was always going to be difficult and they were a different challenge. Unable to keep a clean sheet this time, Weston unluckily went down 1-0 to a one time shot from range.
This left the deciding game to Weston v Ross, the local derby, not played in a while, to see who would qualify. A physical game, going end to end was decided by two expertly taken free kicks from Josh and Sam to seal the victory and head to the knockout phase.

A replay of the league cup final v Belmont was in order.
Going 1-0 down to a well worked cross by Belmont set Weston behind, ,Josh won the ball in midfield, got the ball out of his feet and hit the target to send it to penalties.
Misses on both teams, left Ben with the decisive kick. He stepped up and buried it, with absolute jubilation from all players and parents! That was the culmination of a year long progress and as good as a tournament win for us.

The final against Worcester City displayed great grassroots football but Worcester City came out victorious!
All the team will cherish their runners up medals like gold!

A wonderful day and thank you to Ledbury FC for hosting another great tournament.

📣U7S TOURNAMENT REPORT📣

What a fantastic afternoon at the Ledbury Tournament!
The boys turned up ready to go and put in a brilliant performance throughout the day.

⚽️Vinnie, Tommy, Finley, Louie, Joel, Charlie and Raffy were all on it. The boys adapted really well to each game, with a different goalkeeper for most matches. The format was challenging, with a large pitch and only 8-minute games played at full pace, so there was very little time to settle into matches.
The team focused on staying solid at the back and using Tommy’s pace and attacking threat further up the pitch, which worked really well.

🔴Louie, Finley, Raffy, Charlie and Joel kept the defence and midfield busy with some excellent tracking back, tackles and hard work throughout. Vinnie worked tirelessly on the wing and in midfield, helping move the ball up the pitch and creating opportunities for the team. Tommy showed great awareness, tracking back when needed and being decisive whenever he got on the ball.
Every single player put in a real shift.

⚫️The boys worked hard for each other all afternoon and the substitutes played a huge part too, coming on with fresh legs and helping us keep the intensity high throughout the tournament.
The boys held their positions well and pushed for goals in every match. We managed to beat some of the stronger teams in Herefordshire today and the lads did Weston proud. The biggest positive for Coaches Rob & Gill was seeing just how well they now play together as a team.
They all did amazing!

🌟A couple of special mentions: Raffy scored his first goal at a tournament, which was fantastic to see.
Vinnie produced some outstanding goalkeeping performances when called upon.

Finally, it was brilliant to see how proud and excited the team were to receive their medals at the end of the tournament. They thoroughly deserved them! 👏⚽🏅

The U7s have come a long way in a short time and we can’t wait to see them at the next tournament!

🏆 U11s Whitecroft FC Youth Tournament Report 🏆

Weston Yellows and Weston Reds were both in action yesterday at the Whitecroft FC Youth Tournament, producing another fantastic day for the club.

Weston Reds
• Charlie (Captain)
• Dylan
• Toby
• Max
• Bobby

• Christopher

Both teams were outstanding throughout the group stages and topped their respective groups. The Yellows secured top spot with an impressive 5-0 victory in their final group game, while the Reds won all three of their matches, scoring seven goals and conceding none.

Winning their groups meant the two Weston teams avoided each other in the semi-finals.

The Yellows booked their place in the final thanks to a superb finish from Fraser, while the Reds produced yet another defensive masterclass to keep a clean sheet in their semi-final. Despite creating numerous chances, they couldn’t find a breakthrough and the game went to penalties. Unfortunately, the dream of an all-Weston final wasn’t to be as Brockworth edged through.

The final was a fantastic end-to-end contest. Sonny made a number of excellent saves to keep the Yellows in the game, but Brockworth took the lead through an unfortunate own goal.

The setback only seemed to strengthen the team’s determination. Showing tremendous resilience and character, the Yellows fought their way back into the match and Aiden powered home a header from a corner to level the scores.

With the game tied at full-time, it was penalties that would decide the winners. Weston Yellows held their nerve and deservedly came out on top to lift the trophy.

One of the highlights of the day came after the final whistle, with the Weston Reds celebrating alongside their teammates’ success. It perfectly summed up the spirit of this group – one team, supporting each other every step of the way.

The victory brings home the second trophy of the summer for this fantastic group of players, who continue to make everyone associated with Weston proud.

Well done to all the players, and thank you to the parents and supporters for another brilliant day.
