'It is with immense sadness that we share the news that John Hooper passed away on Saturday 05 September.

John, Fiona and their children Eliza, Jasper & Jonah were very much part of Ropley CC. John, an accomplished cricketer played with heart and passion, but Johns biggest strength (in abundance) and everlasting memories for us here at Ropley was his absolute commitment to being involved in promoting the fun of the game, especially to the youth. John was an incredible supporter and volunteer for the weekly All Stars sessions and junior cricket of which his children were involved with. His beaming smile, joviality and willingness to make time for each and everyone was a shining beacon, one that continues to glow in all our hearts.

Fiona, Eliza, Jasper and Jonah - our thoughts are with you.

John - May you rest in eternal peace'.

Sun 30 Aug 26. Come Rain or Shine.

'Cricket for Wellness - 2026'.

We were joined by Havant and East Hants Mind and Veterans' Cricket Team for a day of social cricket.

Starting with a 15 over affair a joint H&EHMind/Ropley CC team took on the Vets... with the former bagging early bragging rights.

A break before the T20 meant player's and spectators could focus on the main event of the day... tucking in to an incredible endless supply of quintessential 'Cricket Teas', kindly donated by Lou Carey.

With great food, eaten in comfortable surroundings folk were able to kick back, relax and indulge in some cracking conversation with mates and new acquaintances while washing it down with a brew or drink from the Ropley Sports Pavillon bar.

With the back drop of 'Day for Thorpey - Bat and Chat' folk could have been forgiven for parking the cricket for the remainder of the day, and instead having seconds curtesy of the Ashes BBQ... but, the boundary rope was calling and Ropley Cricket Club, led by the groundie Quentin Sandell had fort through the rain storms and thunder to prepare the facilities for a match, so a match was to be had.

Ropley CC won the toss and elected to bat. With 4s, 6s, the odd wicket and frequent rain interventions, eventually 20 overs were completed and 148 posted. H4H went about the run chase at the same pace as their fielders.... so no real surprise that at 20 overs they were 40 short of the total! Which meant that the serious business of returning to the Pavillon and eating what was left over of Lous incredible Tea and fine Ashes BBQ dining could recommence, all while clutching hold of the raffle tickets purchased throughout the day and feverishly scanning the colour and number while the MC raced through the draw... Prizes were won, some folk left disappointed, others elated.

Proceeds on the day came via 'name the mouse', purchase a 'bottomless plate ' and raffle tickets raising (along with kind donations) a total of £604.00 which will go back into the Ropley CC net regeneration project - a resource benefiting the local cricketing community.

Our thanks to Lou for the extremely kind gesture of donating the cricket tea. Alresford Beauty for sponsorship and raffle, the Sports Pavillon bar volunteers, the Ashes BBQ team, Havant and East Hants Mind, Ropley Football Club, Serious Cricket and all who added to the success of the day.

Veterans' Cricket Twam

The annual 'Cricket for Wellness' event returns to Ropley Cricket Club on Sun 30 Aug 26 from 1100 hrs at Ropley Sports Pavillon and Recreational Ground.

We are again joined by Havant and East Hants Mind and Help for Heroes Cricket Veteran's Team for a day of social cricket all played out to the back drop of a quintessential 'Cricket Tea (purchase a bottomless plate for £5.00), the 'Ashes' BBQ, and bar. Competition is available both on the pitch... and in the pavilion - pit your wits by guessing the name of ? And/or take chance on the purchase of a raffle ticket or 5!

All proceeds will go back into the Ropley CC net regeneration project - a resource benefiting the local community.

So if you fancy watching some crick, relaxing in comfortable surroundings and indulging in some cracking food, drink and sociable folk, head over to Ropley CC.

Hi everyone. As you may have seen, we’ve now launched our Crowdfunder to replace the club’s outdoor nets.

This is a £45,000 project, but we already have £15,000 from the ECB and, crucially, Sport England will match the next £10,000 we raise. That means every donation is effectively doubled, but only if we reach the full target.

It gives Ropley Cricket Club great pleasure to make the announcement that Dorset were successful in beating Shropshire at the Vitality Blast T3 Final Sun 28 Jun at Arundel Castle.

Congratulations Dorset on this incredible achievement. Especially proud of Flo Harry and Georgina Wilson, both have been on this journey with Dorset throughout the season and have both contributed with bat and ball ... including in the Finals.

Flo, Georgina, your club and all those involved are truly proud of you both.
