Ropley Cricket Club held its annual Women's and Girls Cricket Taster Event in collaboration with Tichborne Park Cricket Club on Tue 14 Apr
This is the tenth year of holding the event, and it was by far the wettest yet!
Back in 2016 the aim was to promote W10 within the club, ten years on Ropley Cricket Club are focusing on the growth of its Girls age groups (GU9s, 11s, 13s, 15s & 17s) and two Women's teams while Tichborne Park CC are on the road developing their own W10 team...
How better to grow interest in Women's and Girls Cricket in the year England and Wales host the ICC Women's T20 World Cup then to meet up at the Ropley Sports Pavillon on a soaking wet evening and play cricket in the rain!
Well that's what we did and we were joined by 70+ like minded folk.
Maybe it was the lure of 'The Ashes' BBQ, or the bar, perhaps it was the delicious cakes, or the wonderful 'wall of gratitude' presented by our friends at Havant and East Hants Mind, or the ability to try on this years playing gears and benefit from a 10% discount from Serious Cricket, the beats pumped out by MC 'Vic'Tory... or buying a raffle ticket for next to nothing but being in with a great chance of winning some terrific prizes donated by kind folk and businesses from around the local community such as Alresford Beauty , Moon Roast Coffee and Hampshire Cricket Board. Whatever it was, the Recreational Ground was awash (literally) with fun, laughter and a little bit of Crick.
Nothing gets done without volunteers, so it was our pleasure to recognise a few who have been a real credit to the club with giving up their time to help deliver training sessions, assist at matches, scoring and umpiring. First up, Patrick, who assisted with GU11s training sessions and matches as part of his DoE Bronze, Roberta as assistant coach to the GU11s for attending and passing the ECB Umpire Course and Arabella Wilson who was presented with the 'Cricket Collective Champion of the Month' award by Emma Cowdrill of Hampshire Cricket Board.
A truly memorable evening spent with friends, new and old. Ropley CC Women's and Girls and Tichborne Park CC W10 are here to provide the community with Cricketing opportunities, be that with Ropley playing junior or senior matches throughout the summer or Tichborne Park playing W10. Together we can provide something for all;
Daisy Eleanor Berry from Tichborne Park CC;
'Women’s cricket at Tichborne is all about creating a fun, supportive space for women of all abilities to get involved in the game. W10 (women’s softball cricket) is a fast-paced, easy to pick up version of the game, designed to be accessible, social and enjoyable for everyone with no experience needed'.
'Whether you’ve never picked up a bat before or you’re getting back into it, our Wednesday evening sessions are about learning, laughing and building a brilliant community. This summer, we’re all about celebrating women in cricket - with training, friendly matches and plenty of good times along the way'.
