🦁 LIONS OPEN THEIR ACCOUNT: Three Points in Season Opener!

FT: Real 60 Lions 2-1 Swanscombe Tiger Stripes

The new season is underway and Real 60 started it with three crucial points against newly promoted Swanscombe Tiger Stripes!

The Lions were the brighter of the two teams from the off, creating early chances that went begging. But on 25 minutes, the deadlock was broken in style. George picked the ball up just inside the Swanscombe half, showed great persistence to win the ball on the corner of the box, and beat the full-back before poking it to Damarae. He shifted it out of his feet with his left and finished well into the bottom left corner. 1-0!

Ten minutes later, it was two. Some lovely work down the left between Luca and Damarae with a neat one-two. Luca crossed from a similar position to the first goal and Leo arrived in the six-yard box to finish well. 2-0 and in control!

The second half was a much quieter affair with Real 60 comfortable in possession and controlling the tempo. On 60 minutes, a scare came when Swanscombe finished from distance after Real 60 made a mess of clearing the ball.

Apart from that, the Lions were rarely troubled and saw the game out with minimal fuss.

2-1 and three points on the board. That’s all that matters!

3 tournaments — a semi-final, a final, and some silverware. Proud of how the boys competed in all three.

9 friendlies against opposition from Selkent, KYL and Maidstone league sides — unbeaten in every one, 40+ goals scored along the way.

It’s been a big rebuild this summer - 5 players out, 5 in - but this group has worked hard to gel quickly and earn every one of these results together.

TALE OF TWO HALVES: Lions Stage Comeback Against Chatham Town!

FT: Chatham Town 3-3 Real 60 Lions

A brilliant friendly between two quality sides that had everything - a dominant first half from Chatham, a stunning second-half comeback from Real 60, and a deserved draw in the end!

Chatham made an electric start. After 20 minutes, a stunning first-time strike flew into the top left corner - the keeper had absolutely no chance. 1-0!

Ten minutes later, a dangerously whipped corner cleared everyone in the box, including the keeper, to double their advantage. 2-0!

Three minutes after that, a speculative shot somehow found its way into the bottom corner. 3-0 and Chatham were rampant.

At halftime, Chatham were the better side and deserved their lead. Real 60 needed a big response.

They delivered! The second half was a completely different game. Within ten minutes, some great team play worked the ball to Damarae, who spotted Henry’s intelligent run in behind and found him with a perfectly weighted pass. Henry finished brilliantly to give the Lions a foothold. 3-1!

Ten minutes later, some lovely build-up play saw George brought down in the box. CJ stepped up coolly, slotting the penalty off the post and into the bottom corner. 3-2 and suddenly the game was alive!

With fifteen minutes remaining, the equalizer arrived in style! Max F swung in a quality corner delivery and Luca rose to power a header into the back of the net. Comeback complete!

A fantastic contest between two sides who will both be looking to have strong seasons in their respective leagues. Great preparation for the season ahead!

That’s a wrap ⚽️

Runners up in both the League and the League Cup, and our highest position in the top division to date. If only a referee had done his job properly last season, the table would have looked very different - us joint top and heading into a play off for the title.

But life isn’t always fair and decisions won’t always go our way. Our lads showed exactly that from game week 2, digging deep to rise above the noise and prove their character.

It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions. We’ve had highs and lows - at times scoring goals for fun, other times struggling to find the back of the net. We’ve defended brilliantly on our day, and on others couldn’t clear the ball to save our lives. But that’s football, and why we love it. Overall the football we’ve played has been exciting and a real joy to watch.

Mega proud of this group. Brilliant both on and off the pitch, and the bond between them is the best I’ve seen since the team started.

Huge shout out to Steve and Pad for everything you do week in, week out, and to George for the odd cameo. Thanks to the parents who step up to run the line - not an easy job with some of the gobby players and parents we come up against. And a massive thanks to all our parents for their commitment and for getting the boys to training and matches every week.

The rebuild begins.
