Plymouth True Blues 3
Inter Plymouth 1
⚽️ Chapman
Our dream cup run ends at the final, at the hands of the division above’s champions.
Lining up with an identical starting XI as to who saw off Hunter District, we got off to the best possible start, when having weathered a few TB attacks, Dylan Peters was sent down the left by Jake Edwards, and it was Dyl who found James Chapman in the area to fire through the goalkeeper for 1-0.
Chances to extend the lead came through Samip Pokharel after a good press, and through Dylan again from an over the top ball, but their efforts respectively were saved, and sailed wide.
Up the other end, Liam Alexander had to be sharp to make one good save with his feet, but otherwise we were largely limiting TBs to direct balls from deep free kicks.
Into the second half however, TBs broke through with a spectacular strike from range, left footed dipping into the far corner, no chance for Liam, 1-1.
We started having to soak up pressure, with TBs missing several good chances in front of goal, before we got a breakaway through Dylan, whose shot from the edge was just wide of the post.
Ten minutes from time, a deep free kick from TBs was scrambled off the line, and with appeals for a foul, a following in forward managed to squeeze a shot in, 2-1 to TBs.
And with just a few minutes on the clock, and Inter making sure to feature all of their substitutes who had aided getting them to this stage in the cup, a mix up at the back, and another appeal for a foul on an Inter defender, lead to a TBs forward getting in behind Liam to score into an empty net for 3-1.
Full time, our congratulations to Plymouth True Blues on their double.
For most of this cup run we’ve been accused by opponents of higher divisions of “dragging them down to our level,” but noones seemed to consider that we might’ve raised ourselves to theirs instead. We can be incredibly proud of our cup run this season, totally against our league form, to put in big performances in big games.
Next season will see change at Inter Plymouth, but the desire, commitment and passion will remain. Onto our final league game of the season, in two Fridays time against Tamar View 2nds.
