Our dream cup run ends at the final, at the hands of the division above’s champions.

Lining up with an identical starting XI as to who saw off Hunter District, we got off to the best possible start, when having weathered a few TB attacks, Dylan Peters was sent down the left by Jake Edwards, and it was Dyl who found James Chapman in the area to fire through the goalkeeper for 1-0.

Chances to extend the lead came through Samip Pokharel after a good press, and through Dylan again from an over the top ball, but their efforts respectively were saved, and sailed wide.

Up the other end, Liam Alexander had to be sharp to make one good save with his feet, but otherwise we were largely limiting TBs to direct balls from deep free kicks.

Into the second half however, TBs broke through with a spectacular strike from range, left footed dipping into the far corner, no chance for Liam, 1-1.

We started having to soak up pressure, with TBs missing several good chances in front of goal, before we got a breakaway through Dylan, whose shot from the edge was just wide of the post.

Ten minutes from time, a deep free kick from TBs was scrambled off the line, and with appeals for a foul, a following in forward managed to squeeze a shot in, 2-1 to TBs.

And with just a few minutes on the clock, and Inter making sure to feature all of their substitutes who had aided getting them to this stage in the cup, a mix up at the back, and another appeal for a foul on an Inter defender, lead to a TBs forward getting in behind Liam to score into an empty net for 3-1.

Full time, our congratulations to Plymouth True Blues on their double.

For most of this cup run we’ve been accused by opponents of higher divisions of “dragging them down to our level,” but noones seemed to consider that we might’ve raised ourselves to theirs instead. We can be incredibly proud of our cup run this season, totally against our league form, to put in big performances in big games.

Next season will see change at Inter Plymouth, but the desire, commitment and passion will remain. Onto our final league game of the season, in two Fridays time against Tamar View 2nds.

⚽️ Evenden

A much changed Inter side lost out on their Thursday night away day, in what was their penultimate league game of the season.

With almost an entire XI of regulars unavailable, Inter called upon Veterans duo Dan Freeman and Ben Anderson, as well as returns for Noah Langford, Joe Cooper, Charlie Meakin and George Evenden, just to be able to raise a squad.

We fell behind early on when a throw in from their left bounced through us, and was finished high into the net for 1-0 to our hosts. This was doubled with a near carbon copy of the first goal, when a throw in from their left bounced through us and lead to a finish high into the net, 2-0.

In general play the first half was pretty much even, but we struggled to get clear shots away, with Chris Patrick standing out the most in a blue shirt as he tried to play the ball out from the back to build us up the pitch. We unfortunately lost both Chris, and midfielder Jordan Glanville, to what would prove to be season-ending injuries for the pair, throughout the course of the game.

Into the second half we got one back when a deep free kick from Luke Chinnock was flicked on by (the hand of) Freeman, into the path of the returning Gev who bundled it home at the back stick, 2-1.

However we couldn’t build on this, and South Brent ran out in the end, with Inter’s scratch side’s lack of cohesion, and half a mind on Sunday, evident to see. Our hosts scored a third when a corner was headed back across goal and converted for 3-1, and then a fourth when Aidan Lucas unfortunately put a cross from the right through his own net for 4-1.

Not a classic for the ages by any chance, and certainly not one we’ll remember for too long. On to Sunday 🐬

A second year in a row at Home Park, which saw the Firsts come out on top.

The Vets should have had an early lead when Steve Edgecumbe was played through on goal, only to see his goal bound effort illegally handled by Liam Alexander, with the referee brandishing a joke red card, before Steve fired the resultant free kick over the bar.

Instead it was the Firsts who took the lead when Cody Owen was slipped through by James Chapman in the box and slotted home, 1-0. This lead was extended by Gabe Langford, latching onto an in behind ball, rounding the Vets’ stand-in keeper Sam Kenward before scoring, 2-0.

Half time, 2-0, the Firsts made it three in the second half when Lee Phillips latched onto a long throw in, and at the second attempt found the net, 3-0.

The Vets got one back when a shot from the edge was spilled by Liam, rolling towards the line, only for him to knock the ball back off himself and into the net, 3-1.

The Firsts took a three goal lead again when Charlie Pannell remarkably scorpion flicked a cross from the left into the top corner, 4-1, and they made it five when in the last minute, Luke Chinnock beat the offside trap and rounded Kenward for 5-1.

With the referee’s whistle in his mouth, straight from kick off Jake Mann found himself 1on1 with Liam and slotted home for the Vets with the final kick of the game, 5-2.

A great day out for both sides once again, huge thanks to those who organised, and to Jobel bathrooms & kitchens for their sponsorship.
