Inter Ressies 0
Lakeside Athletic 5

The Ressies were back in action up Roborough today, hosting the new Lakeside Sunday team.

Making the step down to bolster numbers today, with his side without a game, was Inter Firsts’ player Jake Edwards, who started his first Ressies game as captain.

Lakeside started brighter but didn’t create much in the way of clear cut chances, so it was frustrating when they took the lead from a loose cross that dumbfounded Sam Kenward and ended up in, 1-0.

That lead for our visitors was extended when a corner dropped awkwardly in the box and was stabbed home, with us really struggling defending set pieces of late, 2-0.

On our breakaways we struggled to put too much together, with balls overhit and Lakeside doing well to repel George Levers’ long throws, and any deep free kicks we earned.

Into the second half, with Owen Williams moving further forwards, we started building up the pitch and gaining some momentum, which all went in a moment of madness at the back, when Jack Caskey joined the Ressies’ record books as our first ever dismissal, for a reactionary handball on the line. The penalty was converted, 3-0.

Down to ten, and with some bodies picking up knocks, a makeshift back line saw out the game. Lakeside added a fourth when a deep free kick was deflected towards the back stick and was converted, and a fifth when a long shot blindsided Kenward in net.

Onto next week, when we take a break from league action to host Plym Vale Utd in the Sunday Challenge Cup, the competition the club made the final of last season.

The sun was shining up at at a very busy Roborough, the bacon butties were on, the boys were back fresh and they certainly started the season with a bang đź’Ą

After falling behind to a sloppy goal within the first 10 minutes, the lads finally woke up and came alive.
A blistering 🏎💨 8 minute period saw us produce some brilliant football and the lads went into the interval 3-1 up with goals coming from Luke, whos spotted the keeper in no man's land and bent a strike into pretty much an open goal from 25 yards. 💪🏻
Next up was Luke again with arguably the goal of the game, with Theo winning the ball at RB position and launched a pinpoint pass up to Harry on the edge of the box, who beautifully cushioned the ball on his chest and left Luke to smash in a Half volley. 🤩
Harry then got into the goals himself after a driving run from Riley to the byline, who cut back to Harry, in off the post.
Second half, we started where we pretty much left off, and new signing Zack got on the score sheet, on his competitive Inter debut, after winning the ball back with determination, spinning in the box and smashing the ball home.
Rest of the half, Inter were racking up the shots but could not capitalise and increase the scoreline further.

Up next is a midweek home fixture, where the lads need to build on their confidence against a good Ivybridge team.👊🏻🔵⚽️

Honours even for the Inter Girls today. A brilliant start in the first 5 minutes saw B.Chinn convert a S.Turner cross into the back of the net. The girls remained on top for the rest of the first half, creating lots of chances. The second half saw more of an end to end game where Inter will rue the chances they failed to convert, and Morley doing well to capitalise on mistakes at the back.

The girls will look to continue their attacking flare into next weeks game against Morley Jaguars.

After many summer days wandering around the house, discussing with my partner what dog breeds would suit playing in a back 3, FOOTBALL IS BACK.

The Inter Girls kick off the 26-27 season with a home game against Morley Panthers. After a successful 4th place finish last season, the girls will be looking to push for the top 3 promotion places this time around.

With no major losses to the squad and the addition of a few new faces, the girls will be looking to hit the ground running and put on an attacking display at Roborough.

We're BACK💪🏻 for the 26/27 Season.

The recruitment team has been hard at it, the lads have had a strong pre season, the prep is done 👌🏻. We're now ready for a rumble against some good teams in League 2 👊🏻

Good luck 🤞🏻 to our U13s, who kick off the new season against a strong newly promoted Keyham Kolts at Roborough this weekend.🏆

We've got this, UP THE INTER 👍🏻⚽️🔵

Inter Ressies 2
Prince Maurice 7

⚽️ Walker, G.Langford

After last week’s maiden victory for the side, today saw our maiden defeat at the hands of an organised Prince Maurice side.

With several regular faces unavailable, we called in George Levers and Sam Beneteau to make their competitive Inter debuts, whilst Aidan Lucas, Noah Langford, Dan Freeman and Charlie Meakin all made their first competitive Ressies run-outs.

A horrific first half cost us the chance of getting any pride from the game however, when after initially falling behind to a header from a corner, we went on to concede constant goals from long throws, one-on-one runs down the channels, and bouncing balls in our own box.

Up the other end when we finally managed to string two passes together, we were awarded a penalty for a handball, only for the Prince Maurice keeper to deny Charlie Pannell’s spot kick.

We did get one back before half time however, when Jason Walker fired from the edge of the box with the outside of his right foot, finding the keeper’s far bottom corner. A great strike for his second goal in as many games.

7-1 down at half time, not exactly ideal. Into the second half we grew more into ourselves and managed to settle some nerves at the back.

The club’s all-time top scorer Gabe Langford got another one back for us, finishing low into the net after good work by Cal Smith down the right, whilst down the other end, Sam Beneteau made his mark on the pitch with a good goal line clearance after yet another long throw in from our opponents.

Even with some players carrying knocks and having to be subbed off and then back on again, and Charlie Meakin abandoning the field in a sudden urgent search for a toilet, we held firm and have that second half performance to take into next week.

It was a good start for the new Ressies team in their opening game of the season.

With Charlie Pannell picking the starting team and Louis Peake designated on the sideline to make the subs, the Inter squad featured four competitive debutants; Inter youth product Jason Walker made his first foray into adult football, and was joined by new recruits Cal Smith, Harry Furzeland and Harrison Westbrook.

We fell behind fairly early on, when barraged by corners and long throws by our opponents, one eventually lead to a ball dropping into the middle and being forced home from close range, a result of their work in training apparently, 1-0 to our hosts.

Connor Thomas, who made five appearances for the firsts last season, got us level with a cutting drive from well outside the area that evaded the goalkeeper’s diving efforts, 1-1.

After getting level we looked much the more comfortable side, and took the lead early in the second half with debutant Jason beat the keeper to a loose ball and finished into the net. A goal scoring start for the 16 year old, 2-1 to Inter.

Owen Williams got in on the act not long after, when Gabe Langford worked the ball well down the right and cut for Owen arriving in the box to put us 3-1 up.

Having already scored one, Connor was next to set one up, when a free kick from deep found James Burnett’s first time finish at the back post, 4-1.

We had numerous chances to extend the lead even further, with Jason and Owen forcing good saves out of the Mary Tavy keeper, and Charlie Pannell heading onto the crossbar from close range.

Mary Tavy got one back late on, despite an offside call, when a free kick bounced in the area and was finished for 4-2.

A winning start to proceedings for the Ressies, onto next week when we host fellow new side Prince Maurice at Roborough.
