After almost 40 years of training and instructing, I have decided to retire from instructing at the end of this year.

I want to take this time to acknowledge the collaboration and friendships I have formed over these years. I especially want to thank the senior instructors who made the decision to join me to form TBD many years ago, a tough call at the time but absolutely the right move and without their backing TBD would not have achieved the success it has.

TBD will continue to run without my direct input. Sensei Mark Broom has been appointed as the Organisational Lead for all administrative duties. Several high ranked Instructors remain and will continue the instruction at the current clubs. The Risca Class will continue to be run by Sensei Steve Engstrom. Steve is an exceptional instructor with the drive and insight to really add some fresh ideas into the training and brings with him some Aikido and Boxing background to add to the mix. I will be popping into classes regularly to keep in contact with everyone and see the progression. I may have the odd “Light Knock”.

My main influence and inspiration has always been and remains to be, Soke Dai John Warfield. I have done my utmost to emulate and ingrain the principles and techniques that I was taught by him into TBD and am confident that with the current structure and instructors in place that his influence will continue to be passed down to the generations to come.

There's so many people I would like to thank and acknowledge, but the list is large and so rather than call them out individually, I’ve put a short video together that captures many of them and hopefully shows the sense of fun and lifelong friendships that have been forged over the years.

Special thanks to my wife and children for their support, all of whom have trained in TBD over the years, my wife getting the highest grade of the all achieving Blue belt ! Hopefully my eldest son can deploy a few bits and bobs he’s learnt in his Police officer role when called on.

My very best to everyone for the future, take care, train hard ! It’s been a blast !
