FOUNTAINS ABBEY PARKRUN REPORT 12.9.2026
This week’s report is from Louise Slack:-
Another morning of parkrun tourism to get an F for my alphabet challenge.
It's a while since we set off in cooler, damp conditions, and a reminder that the long hot summer does in fact seem to be over.
I brought my dog with me today, first time in a while she's done a full parkrun, she's not a fan of an early morning or exercise, with her little legs, but as I was volunteering as a parkwalker today I thought she could join us.
It's an easy parkrun to find, with plenty of parking and lovely clean toilets on the way down to the course, nice not to have to queue for ages and then make a last-minute dash to the briefing.
A gentle, winding walk down to the course and as we came out of the trees the abbey looked eerily resplendent with the grey, drizzly skies.
A great briefing that was clear, even at the back, and for once not drowned out by a cacophony of dogs, even though my own piped up!
There were lots of first-timers and plenty of PBs today. I believe the furthest travelled visitor was from Plymouth. And I think the youngest person involved today was just eleven months old and ‘running’ in a buggy who witnessed both his parents achieve milestones.
I think we had some reluctant milestoners today but from the results I've gleaned:
25 parkruns - Vivien White, Emma Labedzki, Kit Webster.
50 parkruns - Nick Smith, Pamela Luna, Nicholas McMullin, Joanne Day.
100 parkruns - Sarah Belt-McMullin, Duncan Armitage, Harriet White.
250 parkruns - Matt Brookes.
And a big shout out to Lenny Lennox for his 250th volunteer milestone. It's commitment like that that mean parkruns take place, so thank you to Lenny and all the other volunteers for giving up their time so we can keep parkrunning.
Sorry if I've missed anyone's milestones.
This was my 30th different parkrun location and I think my favourite one without a seaview. It really is beautiful scenery, even on a grey day and being from Sheffield, where everywhere is a hill, I felt it was generally a flat course with just a couple of short inclines. My grandson disagreed with me, but it can't be that bad as today wasn't his first time at Fountains Abbey.
The rain decided to come in earnest as we walked back up to the car, so a lovely post run coffee in the café rounded off the morning and back home to watch the Queen stage of the Vuelta a Espana. A Saturday well spent!
And now for the official part:-
This week 466 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 138 were first timers and 50 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 65 different clubs took part.
