A lot of us have been close to that edge.

Depression for me was manifesting for a long time.

To say it just happened would be a mistake because it took its toll for years.

I just didn’t know it.

The only thing that was suppressing it, was my willingness to not accept how I was feeling.

Always looking on the outside for the next thing to bring me some kind of peace and happiness.

And it never worked because it would always turn into some compulsive habit that would inevitably start of as pleasure but soon turn into pain.

At the time, I didn’t know what it was.

I honestly thought there was something wrong with me.

But upon hearing countless stories just like mine, I know I was not alone.

Over the years I’ve grown as a person.

I’ve put in the hard work.

Internally and externally.

My struggles shown sides of me that have been weak and strong.

Don’t get me wrong, sometimes the old stories creep back in.

But, I know how to step back and slow down when I feel this way.

I decided a long time ago that I never want to be close to that edge again.

The place where nothing ever good comes of it.

The place where I can’t help myself, my family or others.

I decided to live my life rather than exist in it.

To thrive, not survive

I could keep looking into the past and continue kicking myself for all the mistakes I made, or I could choose to change my perception and look back at what were merely experiences lining me up for something greater.
