We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of our dear friend, fellow archer and County Coach, Steve Patterson.
Steve was one of the longest-serving members of RRAC and made an enormous contribution to our club. He served as Head Coach and Vice President and was a much-loved Honorary Lifetime Member.
Steve was a truly exceptional coach, generously sharing his knowledge and experience with many archers at the club and across Surrey. He gave freely of his time and expertise, and his commitment to helping others was remarkable. He volunteered at the London 2012 Olympic Games, teaching archery, and even learned sign language so that he could help teach deaf people.
Whatever Steve turned his hand to, he gave it 100% and excelled.
His life was filled with many chapters. He played saxophone in the Army band before going on to work at Heathrow. He met his wife, Cis, through playing hockey and was also a regular swimmer.
When Steve found archery, he embraced it wholeheartedly. He became a Level 3 County Coach and competed across recurve, compound and longbow, winning countless competitions along the way. His passion, knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport were infectious.
Steve was also a passionate Brentford supporter, despite being born in the North East of England.
Above all, Steve was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband to Cis, father to Paul and Victoria, and a very proud grandfather to Dexter and Raine. We extend our heartfelt condolences to all of his family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
Our club will miss Steve more than words can say. For many of us at RRAC, Steve was synonymous with archery. His knowledge, kindness, patience and generosity touched so many lives, and his contribution to our club and to the sport will never be forgotten.
We are forever grateful to have known such a wonderful man.
Steve’s kindness, wisdom and generous spirit will live on in all those he taught, supported and inspired. He will remain forever in our hearts and will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
